Let's see your carnage!

I crashed my bike on Thursday and broke my collar bone, so that inspired this thread! Let's hear your stories and see your x rays!

Story behind this. I hit a dirt jump on my bike and landed with my legs straight. That coupled with a spring that is too heavy rebounded my ass end. I panicked and grabbed my front brake and ended up hitting the dirt. Took a pretty nice smack to the dome but luckily I had my helmet on.

Onto my x ray! The bones that the pen and pencil are pointing to should be one.

And my hardware!

Heh, we had the same surgery.

I broke mine on my dirt bike, crashing head first into the ground it was likely my chin bar on my helmet that broke the collar bone. One plate and seven screws.

I guess I should consider myself lucky. Despite some epic falls in my time I've never broken a bone.

not much for me...

- fractured elbow when I was 15

- 20 stitches in my head from a golf club at 17

- Torn ACL and meniscus when I was 19...without a doubt the worst of them all

- probably 1 or 2 concussions thrown in there as well

Now, at almost 22, id say im overdue

Prior to my fracture in October, I hadn't hurt any bones. Just a few sprains. In the past 6 months, I've got a concussion and fractured my wrist and broke my collar bone.

Never broken a bone other than my big toe, but I tore my ACL and Meniscus in my right knee playing football, and tore my labrum in my shoulder falling off a balcony. I always wish I would have broken the bone because it would be all fixed up by now.

Lets see,
- 1st grade: bit through my lip when I fell off a toy box I was walking across and trying to balance on.

- 1st grade broke my leg at recess. Teacher didn't believe "another of my tall tales" so I had to walk on it all day until my mom picked me up from school.

- Senior Year - High School - Hockey Playoffs - Took a slap shot off the outside of my ankle that chipped the bone. If the piece is in the right spot, I can still feel it when I wear my skates.

- Freshman Year Collage - Finals Week: Got tired of studying so I took apart my dorm room lighting fixture(4' 2-lamp fluorescent fixture). While putting it back together, went to punch the belly pan to get it into place, missed and 2" of sheet metal cut into my hand right between the knuckles.
8 internal stitches & 13 exterior stitches.

- Sophomore Year College - Playing Hockey, tore my Peroneus Longus (ankle tendon) and got a double minor for taking the guy down in the process.

- Sophomore Year College - Playing hockey, went into the corner for a 50/50 puck and came out with a broken metacarpal. This is the bone behind the fingers in the hand. Coincidentally, it was my middle finger, so I had to have a splint on my finger for weeks and it looked like I was giving everyone "the finger"

- 2 Weeks after the splint came off - Playing hockey (again) dislocated my left shoulder.

- 2011 (Sitting on the couch, talking on the phone) dislocated my same left shoulder again.

:crutch::crutch::crutch::crutch::crutch::crutch:

That's the major stuff, I can't even keep track of my scars and other injuries that didn't result in hospital visits

LOL here's my similarities to the above ^^

1st grade - fell of a bike 6 stitches on my chin

6th grade - broke my leg at recess as well, teacher didn't believe me either. Also had to wait all day for my mom to pick me up

freshman year HS - playing hockey, took a slapshot in practice to the shoulder with no shoulder pads, heavily bruised and stretched the ligament a good 3/4" - 1". Still in pain to this day, nothing they can do about it hahaha

I might as well just post a pic of my whole self.

Lol. That's how I feel. 4 knee surgeries (holding off on a 5th), bones broke, stitches. The list goes on.

However NONE of it comes from mountain biking. That is on the list of things I won't do. The list is also titled "Things I won't do because you don't have to be good at it to get REALLY hurt" Every one I know who's into it has shown up with some sort of cast or something.

The other thing on that list is snowmobiling.

Y'all have some pretty good lists going and I don't envy those knee injuries at all.

I definitely should have more, perhaps even dodged life-altering injuries a time or two, but still consider myself lucky.

- Broke my hand (4th and 5th metacarpals) in college
- Broke my collar bone as soon as ^that healed playing Lacrosse in college.
- Countless major ankle sprains
- Tore both hip flexors (kicking soccer/football)
- Tore/strained hamstring
- Lacerated hand ligaments and lower arm nerve; had surgery and the surgeon let me watch :)
Saved the worst for last (I hope):
- Ruptrured Achilles snowboarding. It was about a 3/4 tear at the upper end of the ligament, roughly where muscle begins and ligament ends. Didn't have any insurance at the time, so I was VERY lucky it wasn't a complete tear and I was able to recover (almost 100%) with PT.

I've gotten pretty banged up at one point or another in all my activities (soccer, lacrosse, skateboarding, snowboarding, mtn biking, etc.). What I have learned through it all is this: it's more important to know how to crash/fall/eat it gracefully (relatively speaking) than it is to be good at the activity itself. When I taught snowboarding, the first lesson was "how to crash" and I never had an injured student in 5 years of teaching noobs.

3 broken ankles, a herniated disc, a separated shoulder, some broken fingers and 4 broken noses - all during my rugby days.

Which is part of the reason why I no longer play.

I also have a nice scar on the back of my thigh where I was inadvertently stabbed with a bayonet when I was in the Marine Corps. (I was in a ceremonial drill unit and there was an idiot in formation behind me...).

Otherwise, I'm relatively carnage-free (knock on wood).
