Let's talk awnings

Finally got to use my awning last week on a five day camping and biking trip. I’m very glad I got the arb 2500 as it gives me options to use the deluxe room and leave the tent at home

Just curious, is your 2500 mounted to the factory rails?

Also, for everyone else, when/where should I be looking for a deal on an ARB 2500? They all seem to be hovering around $289 right now, but I'm hoping to score a deal at some point. Ideally I'd get it before Labor Day weekend.

Thanks!

Nah I have a Gobi style roof rack so the awning is mounted using gzila brackets. I bought mine on eBay during one of their 20 or 25 % off everything deals. I paid around $245 shipped

Dang. Do you think it would mount OK to the factory rails? I wouldn't leave it on 24/7, and I don't daily it either. I really think the 2500 is the way to go if you want usable shade, but I don't want to leave my Rola rack on all the time since it's really just a big drag.

I think I've seen some 4th gen guys using it on the oem rack

Mounting on the OEM rails is no problem. I first mounted my 2500 on them. I have a hydraulic press - so I just pressed the mounting brackets to make them the right shape to clamp securely. But you could also just buy a few 8020 or faztek brackets and some tslot hardware and mount it up with those for a few dollars. Either way - just keep your mounting points very close to the two end brackets and you'll be fine.

These are $3 each. Bolt the single hole side to the tslot in the OEM rail. Then attach your mounting bracket to them. Should cost around $10 for all the hardware necessary to securely put an awning on the OEM roof rail. (Get the one with the slot in this link so you can make it nice and flush with the top of the OEM side rail. https://www.faz-store.net/collections/15-series-brackets/products/15cb4005)

If you're okay with the awning being directly above the rail rather than extended out to the edge of the roof - I'd bet these would just bolt directly to the awning and to the rail. $5/ea. https://www.faz-store.net/collections/15-series-brackets/products/15jp4527

I'm not trying to be a nerd about this but the 2500 is really big for stock rails. I had no experience with the arb awnings before I bought the 2000 and it was much heavier(for an awning) than I expected. The manual says not to let it extend more than 700mm. Again, not trying to tell you what to do but just maybe lay out a tape or lines to see how big the 2000 is

Either way have a blast

Another slightly less expensive mounting option is Greg at GZila Designs. Here's the link to his stuff: GZila Designs I just ordered his mounts for my FJ. I have an ARB 2500 on my 4Runner on a Gobi Stealth and love it. With an ARB fridge in the back its the perfect soccer tournament/camping set up. I'm putting the same awning on my FJ. I ordered it last week from AutoAnything. They had 20% coupon and free shipping. Came to $231 shipped and Greg gave me a discount on the mounts so the whole thing was just over $300. I know other guys running Greg's mounts on their 4Runners and they like them. I have Gobi's mounts on mine only because I got them free when I ordered the rack.

do you have the Gobi riser bars on that Gobi? looks like it in the picture? I am thinking of getting those for more real estate up there for a kayak and rod box.
