I recently bought a 2004 T4R 4x4 V6. I needed tires so bought BFG AT 265/70/17 and now am interested in a leveling kit but not sure which I need to go with. I don't do too much off roading so this is more for appearance. What recommendations are out there? I am on a tight budget so need the best bang for my buck. Thank you!

I recently bought a 2004 T4R 4x4 V6. I needed tires so bought BFG AT 265/70/17 and now am interested in a leveling kit but not sure which I need to go with. If you don't do much or no off road driving and it's mainly for looks than I would probably recommend going with the Daystar 2.5 Inch lift. The Daystar lift is 2.5" in Front and 1.5" rear. This will make the 4Runner look much nicer and stand out more. This would be the best option and there is several places to buy this lift. I bought mine from Amazon for around $120-$150 I think it was. The lift is simple to install and can be done by yourself or anyone with a bit of some mechanical knowledge. I own a 2004 V6 and I ran into a couple issues but honestly it was my vehicle and not the 4Runner itself. What I mean is my top strut housing were a little rusted to the strut plates. I had to use a air hammer thing my friend had to knock the strut out. *But you should not have this issue and if you do it's pretty simple to get around. Plus my lower control arms had a bit of rust build up which made them super stiff to the point I had to loosen the lower control arm bolts to get the lower control arms lowered to remove the strut. Yes, this will throw the alignment out but you will need an alignment anyway once you complete the lift. Now there are plenty of people who have performed this lift with no issues like I ran into with the lower control arms not being able to push down to remove the strut or the strut stuck to the strut housing due to rust. Everyone I have noticed on the forum never had the issues I ran into, so I would say go ahead and tackle it and have fun. If it were not for my issues than this would have been a quick and easy job for my friend and myself. I would say have all your basic mechanic's tools and have a friend to assist as well. Much easier and quicker with an extra set of hands. And do have good floor jacks and a jack that will lift you high enough to place the 4Runner on the jack stands. There is a write up online that tells all the tools required. Some write ups I have seen have said to have a pickle fork and other tools which you do not need.

Hope this helped a little. Maybe someone else will provide a link to the tools needed, a write up and a little more help. It's pretty simple, mine seemed hard due to my issues which is not common and mine is due to a lot of rust issues I have had.
