Leveling or Lift and Level a 4th Gen

T4R,

My father called and wants his 2005 4WD off the ground. I looked on toytec's site and found a few economical options. This isn't a trail rig so I thought of a spacer lift 1st. I see the 3" lift that lifts and level the 4Runner, or a 2" spacer that just lifts the front and brings it level with the rear. For some reason I think anything over 2.5" of lift should be suspension component replacement and not in the form of spacer, am I crazy? There will be no bumpers added to the vehicle but sliders and skid plates are on his list.

IMO you'll end up with a better ride if you go with new shocks/coils instead of a spacer. How many miles does he have? With a 2005 if he's got a lot of miles it might be time to replace the shocks anyways.

I think 5100's and fj coils all the way around with the front set at .85 would be exactly what he wants.

Bilstein 5100s (front set at .85" lift) with FJ Cruiser springs front & rear and 1" taller than stock (same width as stock) tires. Much improved ride quality and looks. About 2" lift in the front and .5" lift in the rear.

I have the X-REAS right now with 67k, not sure if I should replace the stock springs with FJ springs and keep the X-REAS. I hope to get at least 100k out of the X-REAS, but not sure how long they usually last.

Thanks! The bilsteins were purchased as a set (I believe they were around $350 shipped)
and the FJ springs were also purchased as a set ($120 for those).

The FJ springs are most easily found here, fjcruiserforums.com, or possibly on eBay, but don't overpay for them.
Some members spend $200, while others find them for $50-120 (like myself)

265/70R17

Here it is with ~3" front, ~2" rear and 275/70R17s

Now I'm back to about 2" front and 1/2" rear with 265/65R18 (same height/width as 265/70R17)

All those lights are a bit much IMO (do you hunt kangaroo?) but still nice looking rig!

Hahaha I mostly only use the PIAAs on the front, mostly for late night driving on back roads... mostly.

The lights on the roof come in handy sometimes but were put there, in part, because they reduce wind noise from the rack. They're also useful on trails and other unlit roads at night. When used together the lights can turn night into day
