License plate light wire?

Couldn't find the answer to this for a 3rd gen.

Which wire in the tail light cluster are the running lights/ tail lights? I need to splice this for an after market bumper plate light.... Also have the Hopkins wire harness converter that I could tap into...

For the 1/2 answer, I dont remember the color, but you can use the tail light itself. It shares the same fuse as the license plate light.

Seems as if this question is coming up often. If I have some time today after work I'll pop my tail light off and let you know which wires to tap into if you want. That's if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Now that I know which wire to tap does anybody have suggestions as to where I could find a weld on or bolt on license plate holder with light?

I taped into the trailer hitch wires that are inside the truck. Behind the passanger side rear big panel. Behind there is a trailer light converter. Simply t-tap right of the converter.

I just copied and pasted this from my thread. Use a light test to see which wire it is.

So I finally relocated my license plate. And made a new harness for the rear license plate light and fixed my trailer wires. The way I wired my license plate light is, I used a connector. So if I want to take the bumper of. I can go under the truck, cut the zip ties and simply unplug the connector and take the bumper of.





Ran the wire like this. And used this thing that you can place it anywhere on flat area and zip tie your wires to it. I don't know what it's called though.




You can the hitch wires in the black plastic wire room and zip tied right next to it is the license plate harness. One wire is for power. Which I T taped into the trailer harness. And the wire I taped into was BROWN. And right next to it I hooked up the ground. There's a bolt that has few grounds already hooked up to it. Which was easy.





Went to Home Depot and picked up this stuff. It's for doors or windows. One side is sticky and the other is soft. Which is perfect to put on the back of the license plates. To eliminate rattle and so it doesn't scratch the bumper. Also when you close the rear tire carrier. Without the tape, it would rattle.



Front license plates. Drilled new holes so I could mount it. Temporarily blocking the winch area on front savage bumper.



Rear license plates.


No more rattle and no scratches.
