Lift a 4X2

Okay, I'm just going to throw this out there. How dumb would it be if I lifted a 4x2? I'm not talking a lot, just enough to enhance the stance a little.

Would I be laughed at by real 4x4's?? I may just leave it stock. Opinions?

Do you really care what other people think? If you like the way it looks, go for it. I would venture to guess that a huge majority of lifted 4X4's you see on the road dont actually need thier lifts for the terrain they drive on. It looks cool tho and thats why they lifted thier rigs. You wanted opinions so there is mine.

If you got it lifted, then it'll look like a lifted truck. That is to say it would look great.

I say lift it. My buddy has a tundra 4x2 & he lifted it, put aftermarket bumpers on,& bigger tires. He gets alot of compliments even though it's a 4x2.

I also think it would be fine to do and would like great. Most would not have a clue that it is not a 4x4. I know that at a distance, even with no lift, I've always thought that 4th gen 4-runners all looked pretty beefy even though some were only 2-wheel drive. I would however, stop short at putting a rolled up sock down my pants

There are a couple of guys on here running monster lifts on 2wd's. Both andyman and BajaRunnr have lifted their 4x2's. I'm getting ready to add a toytec spacer kit to mine. Go for it!

You could probably do a spindle lift. I don't think there are any out yet for the 5th gens but the ones for the Tacoma's will probably work. This will allow you to keep the stock ride up front yet have much more ground clearance.

You lost me. How could I keep the stock ride up front, and get more ground clearance at the same time? Wouldn't I need to increase the ride front and back to get more ground clearance?

Well up front you keep the stock shocks, coils, and the angle of the a-arms both upper and lower. The only thing that changes with a spindle lift is where the a-arms attach to the spindles. Check out this link to read more about them. Like I said, nothing has been tested with the 5th gens, but the suspension really hasn't changed much from the older ones, so perhaps they will fit. Then you would just need to lift the rear to level it out. Just an option that might work for you.

There's a guy on the FJ forums that lifted his 4x2 and put ARB tent on top. If you like the look lift it. Whats the worst that can happen. Pay a lil more in gas & different handling..

Toyota offered that option from the factory with their 4x2 Tacoma PreRunner.

I'm new to the whole mod your truck thing. Hell, this is my first truck....ever.
