Lift Advice

Ok so. I don't know about the rest of you guys but I'm tired of seeing the same questions answered the same way, over and over again.

Search. Patience. Read. PM. Ask specific questions. Read some more. Search some more.

No offense to the O.P., but I know for a fact that myself, Steeze, Brian and Skydiving have all responded to numerous threads such as these, with all similar responses.

After searching for "lift questions" in the 3rd gen section I came up with 157 results, and after thumbing thru them for about 10 mins or so here's what I got...

yes i would recommend going with the medium coils up front if you are planning on getting the ARB. in the meantime, yeah the ride will be a bit rougher than the standard ones but its not going to be a horrible ride. i would still go with those because there is more of a chance that the front will sag when you put the bumper on if you stick with the s****ard coils.

as for the rear, the OME either the 890's or the 891's will work fine. i think that the 891's will have less of a chance of sagging and you can carry more weight too. however, the 891's obviously will be a bit rougher. both the 890 and the 891 area a 3 inch spring but most people have said that you get a 1/2 inch more with the 891. i would recommend going with the 891's if you really don't want sag
:thumb3:

To get a level 3" lift with the 881/890 setup, you'll need the top spacers for the front and your stock shocks will limit the travel so you really should get the shocks too. If the rest of your truck is stock (bumpers, no armor, etc..), the 881 w/spacers and 890s is the way to go if you choose OME. I also recommend that you pay them (toytec) the $100 to have them pre-assemble the front strut assemblies, but that's up to you.

Whatever suspension lift you're considering, you should do the diff drop.

There are a million other responses out there. Look at my build thread, DuHockey, Steeze, Quicksilvr, LINY, Brian2, we're all here to help... But sometimes you can find your answers by helping yourself!!!

And disclaimer : I'm not bashing on you, anything like that... Just trying to get some of the repetitive threads pointed in the right direction.

Cheers!!!

:iagree:

i think this section needs a suspension options thread that should be make a sticky. i will start on one and pm me any info you want to add

PM me or Steeze for info pertaintaing to the Ultimate Lift Thread... I think we spend equal amounts of time on here!!!!

I moderate other forums, so trust me, I'm all for making the information easier to get to. I searched a bit, but with all the part numbers and different setups it can be overwhelming to figure out specifics. :)

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to go ahead and spring for the Toytec most likely. I'm noticing more sag and clunking in the rear, so I'm pretty certain the suspension is worse off than I thought. Shop prices are outrageous around here (I live close to an Air Force base and apparently that causes prices to be sky high since the younger airmen just don't care.)

I don't know when I'm going to do it, but I know I'm going to. And I already know when I do, I'm going to want 285's. :p

If your in the military the base will often have a garage that you can use, they're great. They'll have everything you need and will let you rent out tools, if I were you I would definitely look into it.

That's a great setup, but you left out a few needed parts: The top plate spacers for the 881s (otherwise they would look ridiculous agianst LCs in the rear - we're talking like a 2.5"+ rake w/o the spacers). Ome shocks will work with the LCs but will limit the articulation by a couple of inches (the extended Bilsteins are longer and will work better with that setup in the rear).

You pretty much have to add the rear brake line extension with the LC coils so you don't rip the brake line out. You'll also need the adjustable pan hard bar or pan hard drop bracket with LC coils! Oh and the e-brake bracket (which some just bend the stock one and itseems to work). So.... add a couple hundred dollars or more if you want to run this setup.

I see your point but offer this...forget the OME shocks in the rear and go with stock LC shocks (about $70 a pop) and then yes you'll need the panhard drop ($40) and ext brakeline ($40) and instead of 881 go 882 cause your gonna want that ARB soon and they're the same price as 881's.....so $676 and you don't have to worry about replacing those saggy OME coils in a couple years

Oh, I'm definitely not in the military. I have the tools necessary (minus the spring compressor). I just don't feel comfortable, particularly reading that others have felt like it was a ticking time bomb.

I'll probably do the lift towards the end of the year unless it gets progressively worse.

Yes, that's an option. The coils that we use for our rears come off the front of the LC. It may be fine, but I'm not sure if the rear shocks from a LC would fit on the rear of a 4runner. Are the LCs eye-bolt or eye-eye (for lack of better words)?

BTW, the OME rear coils (906s, 890s, and 891s) don't sag very easily. The only OME coils that are known to sag are actually the 882s. I highly recommend the 883s over the 882s if you're using them with an ARB or similar bumper because the 883s will start off just a tiny bit shorter (like .25"), but after a few months down the road, they will end up sitting taller than the 882s (since they sag).
