i was looking to get the ultimate lift kit but now i am thinking of going a different route. rather than buying the ultimate complete kit i was thinking about buying these components to get the same results..

toytec/eibach front coil lift springs -159.99
front bilstein height adjustable 5100- 199.99
rear ome 891 coils – 169.99
Rear Bilstein Reservoir 5150 shocks -299.99
Front dif drop – 29.99
this comes out to 859.99 all from toytec

when the ultimate lift with the same components is 1209.99

i know i would have to reuse the top of the front shocks. i also realize i wouldn't be able to adjust the shocks easily.

so what would y'all do I'm just trying to get this lift on a budget, would they ride the same? any comments and info will help.. I'm sorry if there is a post similar.

thanks

The Ultimate lift comes with an adjustable coilover for the front (threaded collar that allows you to dial in the exact lift wanted). You can adjust the height without removing the coilover or dissembling anything.

The 5100s have clips that go into groves to give additional lift. The coil must be removed to re-adjust the clip height.

They do sell an adjustable coilover that mounts on a 5100 and reuses the stock hardware. ToyTec coilover kit with Bilstein 5100 shocks - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits and is ~$150 less.

I think that sounds like a pretty solid setup. Only thing I would change would be the rear coils. I was told that there wasn't much difference in the 891s and 890s but I could definitely feel a difference. Ended up switching them about less than 1000 miles into them. Unless you carry at least 150 lbs in the rear it's not worth getting the 891s just to avoid that rear sag the once a month time you do carry enough weight.

That's my experience. Other than that go for it!

Also take into account charge for compressing and assembling front shock coils. I went with the ultimate because after I added 89 or whatever for them to compress I may as well just get the coilovers. Also the coil overs are awesome because if you get your lift all done and its not level then its super easy to level out.

I've look at this too but it only saves me 100, and or the cost of compression i have a shop who I'm sure would do it for me for the cheap or after hours.

has anyone heard of the clips failing?

Those clips won't fail. Bilstein claims the collar would fail before the clips an I believe it.

If the clips had failed, they'd be bankrupt.

Ride should be pretty similar. Like Gerdo said, the adjustables are mainly so you can dial in exactly the height you want. The 5100s are quite that fancy but pretty darn close.
