Alright...I'm 16 and i can't leave my 96 t4r stock. I've had for a couple months now and i want to lift it. I have access to everything i need to install the cornfed 2 in. lift. although my dad lifted solid axle chevys back in the day he's a little aprehensive bout independent susp lifts. how hard is it and what all do i need to lengthen (pitman arm, shift lever etc.) i know a pretty good bit but i need a few more details so i figured i'd ask the seasoned vets of 4runner mods thanks for all the help................

if its a 2in suspension lift, chances are youll have to modify/extend nothing else.

just look at the angles on your cvs and make sure theyre not too extreme. if they are, then youll need a diff drop.

With a 2" you won't need to do anything. You COULD get a diff drop but put the lift on first and check your CV angles, if they look pretty severe or the folds are touching or close to touching, get a diff drop.

same difference as far as what youd need to do.

if you go to 3" a diff drop is very much recommended.

Thanks ya'll... i think im gonna go with fabtech coilovers though

Do some research on the fabtechs b/c I remember reading a post on another board where these were supposedly really bad. On the other hand, Donahoes and Camburg coilovers have gotten really good feedback.

alright..... coilovers or spacers..... what are some of the advantages or disadvantages to either.... sorry if this has been asked a million times......

Coilovers and spacers are 2 completely different things. Spacers are basically a cheap way to fit tires and not having to put on a body lift.

Coilovers will give an excellent ride and is really the optimal choice, other than the Tundra lift...I have the Tundra lift and I love it, rides perfect, wheels like a champ.

IMO anyway.

Spacers are cheaper. They are a piece of something (metal, plastic, etc.) that sit in your front strut between the spring and shock. This stiffens up your suspension quite a bit. You can get a whole kit to lift your truck (front and rear) for about $300.

The coilover is a complete replacement of your stock strut and is engineered to ride better on and off the road. These are more expensive ranging from $600 to $1000 for the fronts. You won't have coilovers in the rear as the setup is different than the front. In the rears, you can run a spacer, taller spring and shock or some kind of similar combo for additional cost.

yea.. thats how theyre advertised, but the coils measure closer to 1.75"

im gonna add some 1 or 1.5" spacers before summer.

You know, did you really feel a difference with that? I have been looking into and everyone I know/talk to just laughs and says its all bling. I can't seem to convince them otherwise...

thats a good question...

i wheel my truck, have no 30" rims or 20 stickers or whatever

and yes, on my 01 which is already about an inch shorter than other yrs before it, it was like gaining 2-3"... with 1" spacers, i can stuff 285s.

plus they flex well in the rear

no bling here...

I guess I'm just not sure how that could be bling.

Lee has a setup and his truck looks great...I love how it was converted from a street queen to an off-roader.

My conversion is finally complete myself, overall this is the way to go for a lift. If I was asked what I recommend I would definitely chose this route, save your money and do it the way you want it right off the bat.

This is a solid setup and performs well on AND off-road, not something you can get very easily going any other way.

Thank ya sir, it's definitely come a long way from its mall crawlin days.

Next on the list is on-board air, sahara bar (long time away, but I can dream) and then lockers.

Fink, I don't understand where you got ME saying that Lee's truck was bling. I said everyone I talk to thinks lifts etc are bling...I didn't say his was. You can look back at what I posted. I just simply asked him if he could feel it ride different/better. I didn't say he had rims or stickers either...I was just telling you MY idea of bling.
