Lift Gate Handle Light Question

I remember an old post about mounting a light in the interior lift gate handle area. I looked through the old threads of adding a dome light/rock lights/led strips in the cargo area or other parts of the door. But was unable to understand any on/off restrictions.

Tapping into the lift gate lights does this restrict the lights only having power when the switch is on/being restricted to the on timer? Pictures to help explain.
