lift gate shocks

So I went to open my liftgate, and it felt super heavy like something was holding it back, so I looked and it was clear of everything. I then pushed it up and let go and it started falling. One or both of my shocks died, has this happened to anybody else? Its still under warranty so I'm gonna take it in, just seeing if this is a normal thing?

Funny that you posted this. Today I opened my gate a couple times and noticed it was not going all the way up. I had to help it the rest of the way, something I have never had to do before. It did not fall back down at all, but it does seem to be lacking. Now that you mentioned this I have a feeling I will look at it a little more this weekend.

I've noticed the same thing. Good to know they have a short life span.

I live in Phoenix, and we pretty much only have two seasons: Summer and Winter. While living here I've owned several SUV's that have the lift-gate shocks, and I've always noticed them being less supportive when it's cold (below 60 degrees).

Well I'm here in phoenix, and it was close to freezing a couple weeks ago and it was fine. Now that its starting to warm up is when the problem started.

My 2010 TE had issues with the Hatch struts and were replaced already around 10K.

Kind of scary, considering I rarely have ever took in one of my 4runners for anything (I have had 4 of them).

Hmmm, so far so good with mine. My trucks at 15k miles without issue. I'm also on my 5th 4runner and I've never had to have those shocks replaced at all. Very interesting.
