Hey, i just purchased a 2011 trail edition 4runner, and am looking at putting a lift in and running a bigger tire size.

Just wondering at what height do the stock control arms become an issue?

apologizing if this has been answered elsewhere i cant find it..

thanks for the help!

My lift post in my build thread has a good review of my lift.

thanks!, Ive joined a pretty knowledgeable toyota offroad association, the head of which owns the shop im going through. where abouts was it rubbing with your 285's? did you ever get that sorted out?

All normally rub at the front fender liner. Yes I had to heat gun it cause I ran out of foward adjustment for the liner.

All 4 tires rubbed on the front side? did you just heat gun the fender out of the way? no cutting involved?

sorry for the questions on the minor details, just want to get a good idea what im looking at getting into hah.

Just the front two rub and usually only rub when you turn the wheel far enough. I was thinking about going up 2.5" in front and 1.5" in the back and run 285's. But my tire dealer mounted a 285 for me and showed me the rub even if it were lifted, so I just decided to level it and keep 265's since I don't off-road anyway. Anywhere close to 3" or over in the front and you should consider UCA's as I understand it.

I would make an argument that anything over the 1.75" mark you should add UCAs. The factory UCAs really aren't made for lifted trucks. My alignments numbers show this.

Tire rub locations- 285 MT/Rs

My 285 MT/Rs rubbed on the front liner and on the front mudflap when turning the wheel (mostly in reverse) so I moved the front liner forward and the removed the front mudflaps. I have an Icon Stage 2 setup with the Light Racing UCAs- which gave my truck just over 3" of lift.

I'm running a stock sr5 and want to go 2.5/2 or 3/2.5 and put 33"ish tires on. Does anyone have any comments about 305/65/17 versus 295/70/17... Is the extra width worth it? Is it possible to run those tires on that size lift? Thanks for helping a novice

Read harper7 build thread. He has done both of those sizes.
