Lift Install Issues... endlinks, bushings, corrosion

Today I started to install my FJ coils, spacers and 5100's. Unfortunately I couldn't get past removing the front endlinks. It was pretty frustrating to say the least. I might as well replace things and do it right the first time.

I used PB Blaster and soaked the threads. There is just too much corrosion and rust, though I had cleaned most of it up. I attempted an allen wrench to hold the stud. That was failure. If I use heat, I fear that I'll have to order parts which I don't have right now. I did some searching on endlinks.

One thread I looked at was someone bought some Deezla endlinks from Rock Auto. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/114337-heavy-duty-tie-rod-ends.html I'm going to just bite the bullet and get some new sway bar bushings and probably do the control arm bushings too.

Here's my question. Once I cut the endlink near the boot, is it feasible to punch it through with a drift? Anyway I look at it, the endlinks are getting cut off. I just need some input on the best way to do it.

I'm just hoping that the ball joints are still decent and don't need to be replaced. Luckily I'm mechanically inclined enough.

Are you asking if you cut them at the boot, that you can punch out the threaded portion?

If so, I don't see why not.. But in all honestly, I would cut the nut off and use a pickle fork to seperate the end links since you plan on replacing them anyways.

Thanks, that's what I was asking. It makes more sense to cut the nut and punch that way. That being said, this was the final straw. The dealer was kind enough to refund my purchase and find me a better 4runner. I have ran into too many issues with this thing. I am looking forward to getting another one that's in better shape.

Good call. That 4Runner sounded pretty bad if the rust was at that point.

Maybe the dealer can get a west coast 4Runner shipped to you, or at least one that isnt from the rusty areas.
