Lift install

Could a toyota dealer be able to install a toytec
lift on my 08 4runner? Or would an offroad specialist be better? I'm just looking for the cheapest option i can find really.

the cheapest way would be to get a couple friends and do it yourself. It's not too complicated and the toytec kit should come with instructions. Not sure if a dealer would install it, if they did my guess is that they would charge up the butt. Same with an offroad place, its expensive!

installing it myself is not really an option since none of my friends have ever done their own lifts and neither have I, so we don't have any experience. I'd be too scared I would mess something up anyway. I'll probably end up going to Off Road Innovations (the only place around here I know of that will do it) and give them all of my money to install it:bash:

did you get the coil over lift kit or just spacers? If it's just spacers definitely save the $$ and do yourself.

I have the coilover kit from Toytec but with only 1 free day a week I had to have professionally installed - not what I wanted cuz any time wrenching = more experience; specially if you break something on the trail....

Long story short, you should expect to pay about $600 +/- for the full front/rear install and expect to be out of a vehicle for at least a full day, possibly 1.5 days depending if you have XREAS or not which makes things a bit more complicated.

Good luck and be sure to post before => after pics!!!

$600!?

Most shops will install spacers for a couple hundred. I really hope they didn't charge you $600...

Mine weren't spacers, full coil over in front and new springs/shocks rear + removal and disposal of XREAS system. I think altogether was $540 and I got a little cash discount (10%) so ended up being $489. Not too bad and have peace of mind it was done correctly.

Joe didn't mention what kind of lift he got or if he did i missed it and wanted to be sure and add my .02. ;):

Full coilovers are easier to install than spacers because it's just a swap rather than taking everything apart, compressing the springs, etc.

Is there any specific reason you paid to get the Xreas disposed rather than just leaving it unattached? Do you have sliders or something in the future that need the Xreas lines taken off before they can be welded? Otherwise most people just leave it on. I had mine pulled but only after I needed to get my sliders welded on.

I think it's funny when shops charge anything at all to do the rear. I can do it alone in 1 hour... 50 minutes of that hour is spent taking out my tools, taking a few pictures, cleaning up afterwards, and taking off/putting on the tires. The actual work only takes 10 minutes.

What's your average shop/stealership charge per hour $98-$148 so that sounds about right. Given the fact that you have also changed out your entire suspension like 4 times to find the perfect set-up (kudos to that however) you can see where it is a daunting task to the rest of us first timers...

I new rails were coming and I was NOT going back to XREAS so I just had it completely removed while it was being accessed - less for me to do later, price to pay for being lazy, ha!

You still planning on coming up to Bay Area?

Very true, any idea what company you are going with for the sliders?

We might do something like that this summer, but we haven't decided yet.

Also, with those price figures, it only takes a shop 2 hours to do a full install. Less if they don't piss around.
