Lift installed!

Before we get to the pics I would be remiss if I didn't throw a big thanks to NelsonMD, he came out and spent his Saturday helping me install my kit. We had a ton of fun (at least I did), and I couldn't have done it without him. We will definitely be turning a wrench again sometime soon.

I ditched the stock tires and wheels recently, so here is a before and after the lift, tires and wheels.

I've got the OME kit, Matt has the Ironman, so I have a bit more height than him.

I need to get a few more pics.

Overall the install went pretty well, a few bumps but we got it done.

Next up:
-Grind out the rust and Por15 the bottom.

It's interesting how Just wheels will make a vehicle look 1000 x better!!! Of course not to mention a lift

Notable Notables...

Figure I will add a couple points that we ran into:

1. We tried to take the LBJ bolts off in order to fit the new suspension in, and we found that the LBJ bolts were severely overtorqued. Spec says 47ft-lbs, we had to pound on the wrench with a BFH just to break them loose (this was pass side, which he had replaced just a few months ago, so these were new and uncorroded). The drivers side, I got 2 broken loose, but the third was so stuck that the head stripped. We ended up re-torquing the 2 I loosened, and just using the jack to force the whole assembly down. I tried putting my foot on the wrench and basically trying to powersquat on the wrench, didn't even budge

If I ever take my 4runner in for work, I am going to print off the pages from the FSM with the torque specs for the areas being worked on, because the last guys to touch Alex's definitely overtorqued some important components.

2. The rear brake line really needs to be replaced with the extended one. Some guys here have mentioned a tab that can be bent down, but the tab on top that the soft line connects to was very rigid, and it connected to a hard line, so it can't really be bent.

3. Wheel lug locks are worthless POS's. Alex's key broke, and we spent a while trying to figure out how to get it off. In the end, we had to borrow a socket from a local mechanic they use to pound over the lug, then force it off. In the end, we just put the wheels back on with 5 lug nuts and he is going to order 4 new ones.

Other than that, it went pretty smoothly. Not much trouble. I have to say, you guys in the south with no rust, wrenching is so much easier for you. We had to content with much less rust than when I did my lift, and that made it so much easier. And it was nice to get to work in a garage again.
