Lift Installed!

Well I finally got my lift installed. I was waiting on the last few parts and a place to do the lift. Ended up joining in on a TacomaWorld mod day and got it all done. It took about 5 hours all together and was a great learning experience.

I used Tundra TRD coils and KYB shocks with 3/8" Toytec spacers for the front. The rear has 3" Downey coils and OME N86 shocks. I really like the ride now and the Downey coils gave me ~3.25" of lift, so I'm hoping the settle to 2.75 or 3". The fronts gave me ~2.5", which is good.

I also got a set of 265/75/16 Cooper Discoverer STT's with 45% tread and put those on today. I like the look of them, but they scream on the freeway. I may end up getting rid of these and especially after the girlfriend takes a ride, but that won't be till December. They are load E and I notice a difference, but not much compared to my Michelins. I really want to get some spacers to push the tires out further because they look too narrow, but I will just wait for my new rims, which will be 8.5" wide. Should take of that problem.

Alas the pics. Had to take them with my phone and real quick while I was on an errand for work. More will be taken this weekend in better lighting.

Haha, I wish. No 285's till I can afford a re-gear or supercharger. Wasn't me on Sunday. I got the lift done Saturday and wasn't able to drive it till Monday. Damn yard work.

Looks sweet man. Some full tread depth 265's will look fine, especially with wheel spacers or better offset wheels.


What wheels are you going with? What is going to happen to the 5-stars?

5 hours isnt bad for an install time. took me 7. thanks to a broken bolt

if you decide to get rid of the rims and tires, id be more than willing to make the trip down to Santa Cruz to buy em off you. plus it would give me a chance to visit the area. i haven been to Santa Cruz in years

I think a wider stance would make all the difference. I'm on 265/75's and I've never looked at my ride and thought to myself that the wheels looked small.

And the lift looks great!

Looks Great!!! Glad the Downeys worked out. The rear shocks may settle a bit but the Downeys don't sag much at all. Plus they can handle a load without bottoming out.

Yeah im keeping the 265's no need to kill my mpg and its already a bit tall for my gf. Going to have to get those sliders welded on soon.

The pictures were taken south of town in Watsonville. I work out there and went to some farm road by Green Valley Cinema.

you dont need to regear for 285s, im running them in an E rated bighorn and have no problems wheeling, my gearing is still low enough i can crawl just fine(and i have all the added weight of armor too). and my freeway rpms and power really hasnt suffered much. i was gonna regear but not now, unless someone just wants to give me gears for free, i can do the install myself so it would all be free, that would be the only way id regear(that or run a bigger tire like a 35, but i will need to lift it first and well yeah...)

Yeah I know I don't need to and the 4.30's I have will do fine, but this is a DD and I really don't want to lose the MPG's. Plus 285's are more expensive and my GF already has a hard time getting in. :nono:

Give me a year or so and I will be moving up to 33's. It will be a regear or s/c before 33's. :trophy:
