Lift kit observations

I'm not ant of you guys who have lift because I envy the hell out of you...!!!!

Do you think when you do the 3" front and 2" rear Cornfed or revtec ot Toytec ....what ever , that the 265/70/17's are the tire size most everyone runs because if you go bigger you have to trim.....correct me if I'm wrong.

My observation is the tires 265/70/17's look to small with that much lift......like I said IM NOT KNOCKING anyones truck at all , but am I the only one who see's that or do you think it looks proportionate and I'm taking to much Vicodin.....

I sure want a little tweek to the front or a small lift.

Do you guys have links to Revtek , OME , or other type of lift spacers to keep Xreas

The 265x70x17 probably suit most users on this forum because they are not regular offroaders so its an easy fit requiring no mods. and works ok in light offroading situations.

For me, that size was too limiting for more serious offroading work and I will eventually move up to 33" or 34" in the near future but this will require some serious mods.

I think the 2.5" lift with the 265x70x17 is ok, but 3" looks kinda goofy to me and doesn't seem to make much sense. After all, why lift the truck 3" if your not offroading it, and then if you are offroading (or intend to) you'd want bigger tires anyhow.

As far as the links are concerned, I assume you've already searched on this forum so take a look at 120Forum on the third page there is a write up of each system and through the thread there are many technical aspects.

Naturally you can search google too for each of the individual companies that either sell or make the products you are asking about.

Falls, i think that you may want to check out Revtek...i think that you can buy a 1" spacer lift for the front suspension only for cheap. This way, you will even out your 4runner (instead of nose down stance of stock).

Mark, do you think that adding 33" or 34" tires will be compatible with Toyota's VSC system??

ESP (= VSC on Toyotas) on my G does not like upsizing 33" and above tires. Of course, i can ignore the flashing ESP lights on my dash around corners (or highway on-ramps), but i am afraid that it will not function properly when i do need it. I do take it on long distance drive, so i am very cautious of this potential incompatibility.

If this is your trail rig, then i am all for it. However, if this is also your daily ride, then i would be cautious. In addition, i wonder if ATRAC can still function effectively. With a bigger (and heavier) tire, ATRAC may lose it's effectiveness in braking the spinning wheel. Two things may happen: brake pads wear out quicker because ATRAC has to clamp harder on the spinning wheels, or ATRAC will not work effectively because it cannot slow the spinning wheel(s) enough for appropriate torque transfer. So, do you need to upgrade your braking system (pads, calipers, etc.) when you upsize, esp. on a vehicle that relies so much on ATRAC for it's capability???

Of course, you could do what Goodtimes did and install lockers.

Modding in the 21st century is becoming more and more difficult. The 2003-2006 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon may be the last of it's kind...easy to mod for off-roading.

Well there is one of the answers.

Lots of people already running 33" Mine are actually 32.5 so another 0.5 will make no difference.

I have the Sport which has the larger brakes already so a better set of pads will help this.

As for the ATRAC, the mass of the spinning the wheel will not be much different than I already have. Can't see how the brake would have to work significantly harder in this situation (on the spinning wheel)

Note that i did mention there will be need for mods as my truck moves away from being a weekend trail driver/DD to more excursion orientated.

Oh damnit! Mercedes ESP is too damn sensitive then! I think that MB ESP takes into account body lean or something because it does not like tall tires.

I guess I should have stated that better , I have found site's for Toytec , ect.... but could not find a Revtek one , Or daystar or OME , I'll keeep checkin.

If you're set on spacers, you can have Cornfed custom make any size you like. Some people go with the standard 3" front/2" rear spacers, but others get custom sizes, like 1" front and rear. Jason Burtman can help you with this.

I had a 1 inch front & rear made for mine. It was just to restore the clearance in the wheel areas after upsizing my tires to 265/70/17 BFG A/T KO.

I had this setup before doing the full lift and it actually looks better then stock IMHO. If you notice on most lifts the back is 1/2 to 1" shorter giving the same affect.

Thanks- I have the cornfed spacer kit (and have had it for 6 months) but have not installed it yet because I cannot find a competent toyota dealer here in the Dallas/Ft Worth Texas area who can install it.

Everyone I've called acts clueless on the install especially since my 4runner has the XREAS.

I would like to get it installed but hesitate to do so- my concerns are-
Voiding any factory warranty having it installed by a non -Toyota dealer.
Finding a competent mechanic to install it.
How the ride will be affected once it is installed.

Ideas? Anyone know of a good Toyota go-to guy who can install it??

You will likely not find a Toyota dealer willing to take it on. I installed it myself but it was not easy, but giving the right tools doable by an amature. I've not nor have I heard any issues with lifts and warrenty problems and there are many that have done it.
Ride is not affected with the 1" spacer. I only noticed a little stiffer rear end with the full lift.

Lift Kit help

I'm in the Fort Worth, TX area and have the 2"cornfed spacer kit.
Still looking to find a good mechanic to install it.
Can anyone refer me to someone who knows how to install this kit in my area? My 04 4runner has the XREAS on it.

Jason Burtman referred me to a Nissan dealer but I would prefer
a good Toyota mechanic or a Toyota dealer to install it.

I'm not really a do-it yourself mechanic. Plus the install turns out to be a lot more dificult than the instructions indicate.
