Lift kit questions

So my runner is sitting totally stock. When I bought it the dealer put new BF goodwrench rugged terains on it I wana say 265-70-16. these are actually great looking tires for the truck sitting stock. But my truck sits a little lower in the front end then it does in the rear and i dont like that.

Eventually when these tires go bad I will deffinitely be lifting the truck and putting bigger tires on. For now id like to bump the front end up to match the rear while im running these tires down. everyones telling me to leave it alone untill im ready to do it right but this could be a little longer then i wana wait.

Does anyone have any recomendations as to what i should do for now....I have plenty of access to a shop and toyota techs, I'm just not really educated on suspensions...ect

You could just bump the front up now with something like this... Front Top Plate Spacer Kit - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

It'll make a noticeable difference (not huge, but you'll notice it) and only set you back $70 plus install if you can't do it yourself. Then you can do whatever you want to the second go 'round. I started with FJ coils on the stock XREAS and about a year later upgraded to the Toytec Ultimate. So be warned... once you start, it's hard to control the mod-bug!

I have the toytec 1/2" spacer installed on my truck, and it lifted the front 1". I installed the BFG ALL TERRAINS 265-70-16 and they fit great with the lifted front. I recently purchased the bilstein 5100's and will be installing them on Sunday. I could sell you the spacers if you would like. PM me if you are interested.
 
Thanks for all the Info everyone... I'm thinking I should look in to the Bilstein 5100 on the front like Chaz said so that I can still use them when I get around to lifting the rear. I wish I could just do it now but the house is about to get HVAC installed so i'm in no positon to spend a ton of cash :-/

One of my Techs is telling me that if i run spacers I run the chance of blowing out the shocks on the truck right now....How likely is that to happen?
 
I ran FJ coils and a spacer for a total of 2" of lift in the front (about 3/4" in the rear) on the stock XREAS shocks and didn't have any issues aside from reduced down-travel. I did only have them on for about a year though, but ran about 10 trail rides.

What? That sounds like some BS to me. Hundreds of members have ran spacer lifts with no issues with xreas and I intend to do so

I know several folks running spacers without issue and xreas. I think this tech is speculating without grounds for concern. The only issue I see is during install if the installer is not careful and does something To xreas.
 
benjamn88, you cant put 5100's on just the front since you have xreas. thats why i said you need to decide what you want to do. if there are no leaks & your going to end up retaining the xreas, spacers &/or fj coils would be the way to go, so imo, lifting the whole thing now would only be a little more than lifting just the front a little & redoing everything later. maybe put this on & be done with it> 3" lift / leveling kit for FJ & 4Runner - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits or http://www.amazon.com/Daystar-KT091...&newCar=1&s=automotive&vehicleType=automotive

I just learned you couldn't do the front without the back on the Bilstein's web site right before i saw ur post. what your recomending makes perfect sense to me. Unfortunitely I cant check those links out because of the internet notsi's at work have most of everything blocked. I'll look when i get home. thanks for the input.
 
When I do the FJ coils and the spacers will i need to disconnect the xreas at all to do install?? also what size spacers would you recomend? same width on front and back or thicker spacers on the front then the back ?
 
Wouldn't putting on a pair of used/new front FJ Cruiser coils (1in) give Benjamn88's truck the leveling he wants without having to loose the XREAS or use of spacers?

Someone who's been in this situation and has done this please chime in.
 
Yeah... on a V6, the FJ coils will raise the front almost exactly an inch. The problem is that the front will be firmer than the rear and it will feel weird. I took a short ride with just the fronts installed and it felt like both rear tires were flat.

That first link that you gave me to J.A.'s page is an excellant write up....I fully under stand what spacers to get, 2.5 front 1.50 rear daystar (older style) spacer pack with .50 pre load spacer and 1.50 top load spacer (which you can still buy from wheel's offroad since daystar is only selling the top load verson now (not as good) anyways....... Further down on his page he talks about 5 years after installing this kit he decided to install 4 2010 FJ coils and was unsecessful at getting the front coils installed due to the fact that he couldn't compress the coils enough to install them. did this happen to him because he went with the 2010 FJ coils and not the 07-09 FJ coils.

On another thread I had read that the 07-09 coil were an exact replacement and the the 2010s and newer required modification. maybe this is the issue he ran into? with them not being the EXACT replacement?

Only reason I ask is because I would like to also run the FJ coils with my daystar spacers and i dont want to not be able to install the fronts

FJ coils from 2010+ are the same as pre-09 coils. I think JA might have been referring to the shocks as the 2010+ FJ shocks use a smaller diameter eyelet that you have to mod to fit our 4th gen mounts.

As for installing the front coils/shocks, use the no compressor method found here.

Youtube of front shocl/spring disassembly here, just reverse the order to compress coils.
