Lift kit vs plate bumper

I have been wondering why on the websites to buy plate bumpers it comes with a lift option usually of 1 inch..

Does this mean I can't lift mine after installing my bumper? I was going to go with a 2.5"/2.0" from toyteclifts.com but am wondering if there will be issues?

That "lift" refers to a body lift option. If you have a body lift, you want the lift option. You do want the lift option to match the amount body lift that you have.

Which leads to the next thing to think about. If you ever plan on doing a body lift, do it before you add bumpers or sliders.

You can do a suspension lift (of any size) anytime before or after you add your bumper.

The lift is referring to a body lift. You can get your bumper made or modify it to accommodate a body so that you won't have a gap between your bumper and your fenders/grill. A suspension lift won't affect the gap. If your just getting a suspension lift the you don't need to get any "lift options".

Took too long responding. Ya beat me to it!

Look at the ToyTec stuff. Adjustable coilovers are great so you can dial in the exact lift you want and they can grow if you go higher in back later.

After reading alot, im going with the Ultimate lift kit, seems to be just what i need

redrunner, I have the Toytec Ultimate lift on my 96. I went this route so when I add the bumper up front, and the weight from it, I can put the front end back to the height pre-bumper.

I went with the 890 coils for the rear but more than likely move to stiffer springs when I get a rear bumper in a few years.

I love the ride of the lift as well.

Thanks! I'm glad to hear it rides good bumper and all..I went with 890 as well for the rear

I had the 890s then went to 891s to carry more weight better. When I camp and wheel, the load can get heavy. Now I'm running 861s. They are taller and carry weight great.

Do you think the 890s will be sufficient if i ever get a rear bumper? or will i eventually have to get an upgrade? I felt the 891+ would be too much for a 100 pound bumper but im not sure

The spring rate between the 890 and 891 is 20# (190# vs 210#). Basically, a 200# spring will compress 1" per 200 pounds. So if you have the 891, they will handle about 10% more weight and ride at about the same height. Or they will ride about 10% higher with the same weight.

You will ride lower with a heavy rear bumper and 890s.

Personally if you plan on a rear bumper, I would suggest the 891s.

Good to know, if I do get a rear bumnper i might just have to upgrade, would it a huge sag with the 890?

i just put 891s on mine last night. i had LC coils. the difference in springrate/sag with a load is VERY NOTICEABLE. with that being said, I could have gone a little stiffer and been happy with that.

i think im going OME 861s next.

which are, if im correct, the Stock Replacement Height OME springs for the front of a Landcruiser FZJ80 series.

Not quite. Stock lc coils are about a 180# spring rate. The 861 is 220#. They are spec'd as "heavy duty, low lift, 3/8" lift). I have also heard that with an aftermarket bumper, stock ride height. (On a Fj80 front)
Out of the box, they are taller than the 851 but the 851 will ride an inch or two higher. The 861 is a progressive coil, the 851 is not.

I'm running the 861 and love it. With my daily load, I'm sitting at about 5" of lift (sleeping platform/drawers, tools, spares, some camping gear, rear bumper with swingout tire, 2nd battery). When loaded down for a week expo (10 gallons of gas on swingout, 15 gallons of water, engel fridge, firewood, camping gear and food for two) it squats one inch. (Front and rear)

Remember, to get the rear to squat one inch will take 440 pounds (2 x 220# coils compressing one inch = 440#)

Good info on the 861's. Thanks. Thinking about getting these myself.
