Lift Kits (newbie)

I recently bought a '87 4runner and want to lift it enough to fit 35"-36" tires. (I'm guessing 2-3" of lift will be enough?) I am hew to trucks, so I know nothing about lift kits, I found these 2 on ebay....

Whats the difference between these two kits and which would be better?

You will need more than 3" lift to clear 35" tires w/o a lot of rubbing, and/or sheet metal trimming.

The IFS axles will not hold up long to that size tire either, depending on the type of wheeling you plan.

After I did my research I found out that one is a body lift kt and the other is a suspension lift kit. Anyone use a body lift kit with success?

I don't see how one could use a body lift unsuccessfully.

It's basically some 1 or 2" spacers that go between the body and frame.

But to answer specifically, yes.

The "recipe" for 35's is a 4" suspension and a 3" body lift.

I have that on my truck but I wanted to run 36" iroks so I went one step further and also put in 1.5" bj spacers too.

The truck looks great. It rides like shit, but it looks great. :bash:

Thanks bro... It's kind of out of place around here but mechanically it's almost identical to the 4runners so I hang out around here too.

Is that the stance you were looking for?

Its still not quite like the 1st gen 4runner. Also a lift might be the least of your problems when you put 35's on a first gen combo of 4.10 gears a 22re and 35's is not good.

When I was running 32's the 4.10/22re combo was almost unbearable. I went to 5.29's when I upsized to 36's...
