Lift Options?

I currently have 31' BFG AT's on my 88 runner right now and was looking to go bigger. My questions are, how much lift would I need on my runner to clear 35" tires and what gearing would I need installed to get the best power band on my truck? The truck is my daily driver but sees weekend trails quite often. Also, should I go straight to 35" tires or should I try 33" tires first? It's stock height right now and only has rear shackles installed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You will need a 2.5 ssuspension lift and 2 inch body lift maybe 3.. you can fit 33's with a 2" lift with spacers on there that's just what I've heard I'm trying to pick out the right lift for my self aswell but i'm just going to put 32's on mine

no... i had ball joint spacers and a little rear lift and my 33's fit fine. i put a 1 inch body lift and for fun stuck on 35's to see what the looked like "its nice to have friends!!!!" and the 35's fit fine. it i pounded my pinch welds i dont think they would rub alot at all.

Dude, unless you just wheel mall parking lots, you will have to do a bit of work to fit 35's without any rubbing and binding. Suspension and body lifts combined is a start.
And of course you'll need to regear both diffs to be able to turn them and still have decent power and MPG.

Would I have to switch out my gears with 32's?

i didnt and i have decent power. i pounded the pinch welds and did a little cutting. i just made a thread called my 85 4runner. check it out.
