lift shocks or standard?

Tall '99 coils. Daystar 1.5" rear and 1" front spacers.

What shocks should I use? I've gotten conflicting views on whether to use "lift" shocks or standard shocks....pertaining to how they'll ride based on their length and what part of their travel they'll be using during normal driving.

Almost anything will physically fit, but surely there is a shock out there designed for optimal performance with a SMALL lift. Everywhere I turn it's either shock for a 3" lift or more...or stock shocks.

Id get the OME shocks then you wont have to worry about what your worrying about.

OME shocks are too long for the front.

That's what I'm having to lean towards right now....BUT.

Steve from SS said that I should NOT use Tokico Trek Master r/t's cause they'll be pulled out of their optimal range and ride rough. They're a stock size shock.


I'm like jeez....something has to work well. There are only a million different shocks available if you know what you need. The problem is I don't know what length or valving I need. I don't even know how long stock shocks are or what their valving is. That info in itself would help alot.

I have the same exact question as OP. Looking at the Bilstein 5100s

not a good idea to run spacers with the front Bilstein 5100's. they are not designed for spacers. plus they can be adjusted up to 2.5 inches of lift so whats the point of running a spacer anyway.

and what SS said about the Tokicos "being pulled out of the optimal range' is BS. the shock being at a different position will not make it ride any different. plus the Tokicos are pretty much a stock shock so they work well with spacers

So far

the 99 talls up front with OME 906 with bilstien HDs all round are working well. I was told that this set up will allow me to use spacers if i want to level it out. so far i have a .5 to 1' rake. which i like

i had a stock '99 with magic coils and rode like a dream on the bilsteins, not sure if they were the model number above but i loved them just put a lift OME lift on and am running their shocks and they seem a bit soft to me, i know the cg changes but besides that i do miss how the bilsteins rode, i had sensatracks or something else in the rear.



how does the spacer effect the shock isn't the spacer mounted above the shock in such a fashion that it really doesn't matter, at least that's how it looked to work from me, since the bottom of the shock is essentially static and the coil rests on a platform and a plate above the shock, it doesn;t look like to me that a spacer would have any bearing on the front coil assy other then if the shock has a long enough throw, like any lift...

i don't see how one lift shock wouldn't be ok for a spacer and another would be, if they have the reach/travel/throw whatever you wanna call it, it seems ok to me.

or am i wrong?

i'm pretty sure the daystar spacers he is referring to are the preload spacers that sit inside the shock/coil assembly. if they are the top plate spacers, then you are right. the shock type won't make a difference. however top plate spacers over 1/2 inch are not good since they extend the length of your shock and the shock is what limits droop. so you can over extend stuff with too big of a top plate spacers,
