Anyone know where I can find a place where they lift trucks? I want to get a 3" lift installed and have no idea if there are any shops that do this kind of service here in southern California. Anyone know of any? Or anyone in southern California with experience installing lifts? I would be glad to pay someone to install it of course I'll buy the parts but would like to know what I need exactly. And if anyone knows of any shops what is the going rate for the lift kits and installation? Any information is gladly appreciated.

yeah, dont bother with 4wheel parts...

unless you know exactly what you want and know how to fend off their stupidity.

they dont know crap about 4runners. and I think they only have the ome 1/2 lift... poor poor selection

My advice would be to order up some LC coils from ROCKI TOP AUTO for the rear, order some Toytec coilovers and a diff drop from Home - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits and then get some matching bilstein shocks for the back, then take it to a local shop that will work on it that you trust.

Do your research though, so you know whats up..

Call up Toytec and order up a kit and have it delivered. I might be able to help if not there are tons of shops in So Cal that will install for you. I mean we are only the mecca of Desert and Rock Crawling shops. The problem most of them dont have a clue what to order as far as lift parts for a 4Runner. They can talk Jeep and Tacoma all day long and can install on our trucks, just dont know wht combos work for springs and shocks. Just noticed you are 2wd. Are you looking for a high speed desert set up? Camburg, Total Chaos, Icon Vehicle Dynamics. All high end good for high speed and in So Cal. Some of the guys there also know how to set up the back end, usually by ordering a set of Deaver springs.

I honestly am not sure what to get all I know is I want it to be lifted high. I don't want to spend too much on it and I do tend to go really fast in the desert when I'm there lol. My brother was telling me if I were to get a lift I might need something for the turning? wheel crank or something I forgot what it was, but he said it needed to be longer...

.

between the two things mentioned here "stupidity & poor selection" you've be
very lucky not to get screwed over, aviod, aviod, aviod, you must have a specialist in your area or someone who can help you. installing a lift isn't rocket science but at the same time you don't want some high school drop out with a impact wrench anywhere near your ride, seriously i have never been into one of those 4wd stores and not gotten pissed off trying to argue with them about what will and will not work, if it's not in their cataloge it won't work.

Will I have to replace my shocks and shruts also? If I get a lift?

shocks yes, struts? what struts?

with a lift you only replace shocks and coils and then add diff drop (optional but recommend) you don't really need anything else besides those 2 maybe 3 things..

also a thing to mention is you don't need new shocks if your only going with a mild lift, and when i say mild it's like 1 inch or something like that. i am unsure of the exact number, but it's hardly worth mentioning, i would just figure shocks in to the overall price.

also keep in mind there's 2 types of lifts, a body lift (BL) or a suspension/coil lift, if you just going for looks a BL may be just fine for you. BL's are cheaper and easier to install (imo) and will give you that look your after, the suspension lift on the other hand it alot more money, but also has a lot more built in performance, and you get what you pay for, other's may disagree but i have ran nothing but a bl on some of my rides and noticed a crappier ride quality, not saying that's inherent with BL's but just my experience with them,
from my own personal experience i find the ride quality far better with a full coil lift.

so in summary

BL for looks
coil lift for performance/off road prowess

it should also be noted that both can be used in conjunction with one an another, it's not uncommon to have a coil lift with some bl spacers in there for the extra clearance on the larger tires.

what are you trying to accomplish here? just want bigger tires and spend 98% of the time on road, go with a cheap $200 bl and call it a day.

Technically, the 2 fronts on our trucks are struts. If the shock and and the coil are in one assembly and it is has structural integrity in the suspension, it is a strut. People just don't ever really differentiate between them on our trucks.

You can go more than a 1" lift with your stock shocks/struts. I ran a 2.5" Daystar spacer lift for over a year on my stock shocks/struts and had no problems. Ended up replacing that lift just because it couldn't hold the weight of my ARB bumper once I installed it.

yeah i was confused by his double use of strut, becuase by definition the shock and coil is the strut so you can't change the shocks and struts, or the coils and struts, correct as a strut is technically an assy, that was designed to resist longitudinal compression with the ability to support sideways loads not along its axis of compression, even with all of that said the strut would be the assy and the coil and shock would just be components of the strut assy, as the top and bottom plates are what make the strut work and are integral to the operation of the assy other wise you don't get that resistance of longitudinal compression, if that makes any sense, and if it does you can see why i answered the way i did.

so just to make things clear a strut is the sum of all of it's components, not any one given part of the "strut"(when speaking about cars a strut in structural design terms is different)

I'm pretty much going for looks but then you got me thinking of ride/performance, what would be the cheapest to get which would show a major difference compared to stock and also will I need to get a longer bar or something my brother was telling me about if I get a lift because of turning for the wheels? I wasn't too clear on that. I'll look into that place on valley and temple city since I live really close to there.

sweet what would you recommend? How much did yours cost? and did it take a long time to install?

I spent about $600, I went with ToyTec w/ pro comp shocks & OME 3" Lift Kit with front and rear OME coils. later I'm up grading to OME rear shocks and ToyTec Coil Overs for the front. It took me about a day but I had no idea what I was doing so it took a little longer. As far as my set up right now, it rides good.

what your brother is talking about is longer sway bar end links, and he'd be right if this was a jeep, unless your going crazy with the lift you don't need to worry about those. just the coils shocks and diff drop is all us yota guys need to think about with a mild lift, much less then our jeeping brothers.

so with that out of the way, you really just want a BL get that for like $200 or so and run it for a while you'll get the looks your after and be able to run it right away, plus the install is pretty darn easy, not major dis-assembly required. also this will allow to save for a suspension lift in the future.

there's is no cheap suspension lift, cheapest way to go is used LC coils used tundra coils and some new shocks and then you maybe might be able to get it done for $500..and that's a maybe, from the sounds of it a body lift will do you fine. just keep in mind any lift will effect the ride, you change the center of gravity the body roll and overall ride quality is going to change on any rig, don't let that scare you but just be prepared for it.
