Lift/ Tire Questions

I have had my 97 4runner 4x4 about a year. The rear coil springs have begun to sag a little with age (about 1.25" lower). I am replacing the rear coil springs to even it out and want a moderate lift while I'm at it. Definitely spacers as I am a cheap college student and I am considering either 2" Cornfed or 1.5" Daystar spacers for all four wheels. How much lift do I need to fit 275/70/16 tires on stock wheels with no rubbing? How much lift for 285's? Any other advise is appreciated as well!

I wanted to fit my 285/75/16's on my 98 4Runner. I installed a Downey 3.5" coilover suspension lift thinking that it would work. At full lock going into a driveway, my mud tires rubbed. So, I did some trimming. It made it better, but the rubbing was still there at certain angles. I ended up adding a 2" body lift to remedy this problem. Now, I have no rubbing issues at any angle and love it!

Erik I was running 275/70/16 on my stock 97 wheels with no lift and no rubbing and no trimming. I just installed a revtek 3" kit last night and I am now running 285/75/16 with no rubbing at full lock however the tire is extremely close to the upper A arm. After all the research I have done I think this is pretty uncommon for tire fitment but it works for me. Most people say you need atleast 2" for 275/70 and 3" plus 1" BL for 285/75. I don't know, I guess they are all different. I will post up some pics of before and after the revtek tonight in a different thread. Hope this helps.

From what I've read, there is definitely no straight answer as to what it takes to fit 285's. Some 3rd gens have only needed 2 - 3 inches of lift to fit 285's while some have needed a bit more through a body lift. I think it's one of those things you have to try and see.

Also, some OEM wheels w/ 285's will rub the a-arms and some don't.

One other factor to consider is some 285 tires are bigger than others. Erk, for example, has mud tires and may have needed the extra lift to fit these vs. a basic AT tire.
