Lift/Tires

Currently I have stock tires on my Runner which need replacing. I drive in snow about 5 times a year and off road about twice a year. With that said I'm looking for a tire which gives a decent ride, looks bad ass, and hopefully last 60,000 miles.

Lift? I know I should lift first but I'm not sure I really want a lift...so I guess I want a tire that will change the overall profile of the vehicle without having to worry about tire rub.

Any suggestion on tire types?

265/70/17 BFG All Terrain. Nothing looks better in an all terrain. If you go blackwall out or white letter out they look great. BFG AT has the best looking white letters. Although its personal preference , black side walls out seem to be the trend these days. They can last 60k if maintained properly with pressure and proper rotation , but 60k is pushing it on any tire. I like a lot of tread so by 50k they are gone anyway.

Should have no rub. You could also do a front end leveling 1" kit to make it look a little different so it does not look like its nose heavy .

Thats what I plan on , but waiting for my warranty work to be done first. I am already running upsized tires ( 265/70/17's) Bridgestone Revos. Not a tough looking or aggressive looking tire. I would not recommend them for what your wanting or looking for.

Also look into Nitto Terra Grapplers which I hear are a great tire and cheaper than the BFG , but do not look as good , but people say they perform well.

Hey thanks for the info. I figured 60,000 is pushing it on a tire. I had my current tires rotated regulary. At 36,000 they look like crap. I'll admit I push the intervals between putting air in the tires which I'm sure has led to early wear.

I've heard some good things about Nitto Terra on here before.

What Falls said...#1 BFG AT KO...#2 Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor. I would stick with these two choices with your stated requirements.

Personally, i am not a big fan of lifts. I would just get the 1" front lift that Falls mentioned...this is about the most i would do if i had a 4runner. I don't like lifts on IFS (independent front suspension)...too many variables to consider...too many durability issues (leaking CV boots/joints for example). Others will disagree with me, but that's what i have seen/heard over the years when i researched it for my '02 4runner.
