Now that I've seen the preview pics of the 5th gen, I will be keeping my runner for many years. And since I've decided to stick with the stock rims, I can use that money elsewhere. OME coilovers or Toytech adjustable coilovers?
toytec bilstein adj coil-overs are the only way to go. Just make sure you take measurements before and after so you can get them set right. If you go to high you will tear your boots all the time. Trust me I know from experience I forgot to take those before measurements. Or you can go with the Bilsteins from Sonoran steel, they come with the C- Clip hight adjustment and can not be set to high. I have the All-Pro off road which are identicle to the Toytec ones
i concur with the toytec adjustables, they are great, but yes be careful how high you crank them up. And I would recommend doing some pre-emptive action by beefing up the CV boot clamps to make them nice and tight.
i dont do my own install work as my mechanical ability is null. i remember from a previous post something about a diff drop, i believe toytec said the part is about 30 bux...necessary?

My main concern is that the comfortable ride I get on the hwy during long trips may be compromised. I am very afraid of this happening. Handling as well, I would hate to see this become worse. Anyone want to help me relax before i dish out money for this next project?
Is a 3" lift a true 3" lift or more like 2-2.5 after a bit of settling/sagging?
i never measured the before and after distances so I don't know how much lift I actually got, it drives and looks nice which is what I care about. As for the ride it did take some time for the parts to settle in so it started a little stiff but soon smoothed out very nicely. Better then before imo. Unless the install is done wrong I think the only way for the ride to get worse is if you do a spacer lift instead of new springs.
They dont make coil overs for the rear. I am sure you can special order some from some place. The OME's are a nice spring and you can get them in different rates for soft medium or stiff. I personally run the Bilsteins all four corners, with Land Cruiser coils in back. I almost wish I had gone with the OME so I would sit more level instead of the rake it has now.
ok, so now i come full circle to where i started. toytec told me the monroe sensatrac shocks i have would work fine with OME springs (880s and 890s i believe). while i'll get the lift from these, do i still need to swap out the shocks?
The stock shocks will work if you stick to on-road driving but if you start flexing the suspension at all you'll have a much better chance of bottoming out the shocks. The ones that come with the toyec kits are longer to accommodate the extra length.
when i spoke with them last all of the coilovers were on back order. i do next to zero off roading, so im not concerned about the shocks. if i ever get into off roading i can always swap them out i suppose. thanks everyone for the input.
lame they are on backorder, It'll be worth the wait though so don't get impatient and settle for something less! It doesn't look like you are in much of a rush which is good.
nah, no rush whatsoever. ive been debating a lift for a while and will probably continue the debate. not sure if i want to put the money in it, or stash that away for the sequoia/land cruiser as the next vehicle. hard to justify a lift when the ride is already so perfect, unless it is going to give me some real benefit like the cat back did.
