Lifted 4Runner & GX470 side by side

Here is another in the series of photos comparing a 4Runner with a 3" lift next to a comparable rig. I found a stock GX470 in the parking lot, so I took a photo.

wow......wish i could get a lift, but my 4runner won't fit in my garage after that. looks like it puts the overall height of the 4runner about an inch taller than the gx470.

Wow, that's a notable difference! When you see it like that, I wish the Runner came from the factory at that height! What size tires are you running?

Now add to that my modifications: 265/70/17 BFG AT KAs which add about 1/2" to the ground clearance. Then add 3" on both ends for the lift kit. So, it still easily fits into any garage that accomodates the GX470.

Oops, I didn't delete a third height which came from the XC90. Please ignore the bottom heigth number.

What I notice about the two photos are the same overall height, yet much greater ground clearance of the 4Runner. Look at the GX windows to see the extra headroom in the GX.

Mine will still fit in the garage (once I lift it).


But, if the garage door is up & I open the rear hatch, it will hit. I only have a 1" of clearance now.

My tailgate also hits the bottom of the garage door when open. I added a lot of self adhesive foam insulation to the bottom edge of the garage door. Now when I open the 4Runner tailgate in the garage the door comes to rest against the soft foam.

Yeah I've done the same. Irt works really well. I just dont think the gas struts like it too much if you leave it open for too long. I have my second set on and they already have become lazy to open beyond the point that it lifts in the garage. I'll just use it quickly while in the garage these days.

The other thing is that the headroom number for the 4R is without the moonroof, while the GX has it standard. I have a moonroof in my 4R and a GXs cabin feels quite a bit bigger to me.
