LIFTED and BLACKED OUT, sort of...

I just lifted my 4th gen w/ a toytec 3" spacer lift FRONT ONLY... the front now sits just 1/2" higher than the back... talked to burtman and he will custom make a 1/2" rear spacer... anyway onto blacking out... it always bugged me that the center bumper was silver and that it did not match the black roof rack like it does in the SEs and i thought silver is to bright a color to go with the scheme of my 4th gen so i painted the silver centers on the bumper black... i thought about color matching (galactic grey) but i REALLY like the contrast... at first i thought i had made a mistake by painting them black but the more i look at my t4r i grow to like it more and more... but this thread is not complete w/out pics so... here they are... lemme me know what you guys think

Personally, I would have just painted the roof rack silver. The silver on the bumpers gives the 4Runner an sort of "skid" appearance that I think sets it apart from other SUVs.

That's one of the things I don't like about the '06 and newer 4Runners....none of them have the silver bumpers anymore.

if i had silver or light grey colored wheels i too would have painted the roof racks silver... but my wheels are dark and so is the color of my runner... so in going with the dark theme i chose to paint the bumpers black... PLUS i think i am the only one with a runner like this (I HOPE)

i initially tried to take them off too, but it was too labor intensive so i just masked off the rest of the bumper... it was much easier to do that way... and as far as the homelink it is basically garage opener wired so that it works only when the ignition is in the ON position... i will post pics when i take them...

I have to agree with you on that one. When I very first started looking at 4Runners, I didn't realize that the newer ones didn't come with the silver strip on the bumpers. I drove myself crazy, and was very sad when I realized I would have to settle for a used one, just to get the silver. So I decided to get over it, and get a new one, but still wish they didn't discontinue that style. Other upgrades make up for it though, such as a slightly different body style, projector headlights, etc.

yes, but i would rather buy blacked out emblems so that the emblems and lettering will not be misaligned... does anyone know if there are blacked out emblems i could buy?

Yep, they are called Black Pearled emblems. Jason Burtman can get them for you, but they are pricey. Few hundred bucks for a full set I believe.

Well if you think about it, that price makes sense. Have you ever priced a single emblem from the dealership? The "iForce V8" badge I bought was near $40 by itself. Overpriced plastic if you ask me.

wow, i did a google search and WOW i never knew how expensive this relatively simple mod is... I am a perfectionist so i do not want to remove the emblems then have the spacing off... maybe a group buy...

any of you interested in a black pearl emblem group buy for the 4th gen???
