Lifted... what floor jack? How about spacers/adapters?

Hey guys.....Currently sitting on FJ springs and have Toytecs on the way. I remember when installing the FJ springs that my floor jack was barely able to get the truck tires off of the ground using the factory recommended jack points. Buying a different floor jack is out of the question. For those of you that are lifted 2"+, what are you using to get your tires off the ground? Been looking for adapters/spacers, but haven't found anything yet. Also, are you guys still able to use the factory bottle jack?

I just took some pieces of a 2x6 board and nailed them together. It allowed for my factory bottle jack to reach 4 inches higher which was perfect!

I also carry those pieces in my truck full time in case I had an emergency.

Check your local Home Depot. Usually in the lumber dept you can find scrap pieces of wood.

Harbor Freight 2 Ton High Reach Low Profile Floor Jack has an extended lift up to 24". I have a 3+" lift and it's got plenty of room to keep going. no blocks or spacers needed. It is solid and HUGE, has to weigh probably 85lbs. One of the best garage purchases I've made. Makes working on the truck so much quicker.

Edit: sorry, didn't notice you aren't able to buy a new floor jack.

I long to get a taller jack, but for now I'll echo what others said. I use a piece of 4x4 on top of the saddle. That works OK, but even still is barely high enough to get a wheel off the ground.

The Harbor Freight item above looks like the ticket!

Love mine caught it on sale and paid $70 bucks for it. By far my best bang for buck garage investment.

This is the one I picked up. I wanted the low profile because I work on my mom's Solara from time to time for oil changes and whatnot. I can lift the rear off the diff no problem, but the front maxes out and barely gets the front tires off the ground w/ a 3" lift in front. Otherwise it's a great jack. I also have a 2 ton that's probably 15 years old that's on it's way out, but prior to the 3 ton, I had to use a 4x4 block and it was having a hard time lifting the runner up.

If you have a decent floor jack, and you use the center of the rear differential, and the lift point under the front engine cross member, you should be able to lift high enough to get it off the ground. With the rear differential, it only takes a couple of inches of get the rear tires off the ground, and as I recall the front lift point only takes me about 6-8 inches of lift to clear the fronts. But, if you lift from the side frame points it will take more lift range to clear the wheels.

Thanks for the input guys. I already have an Arcan 2.5 ton floor jack that I bought from Costco, which is why I don't want to buy another floor jack. I think I will have to make some spacers using wood blocks. I'd probably keep the blocks with the car so that I can use them with the bottle jack too, if necessary.

I've always borrowed floor jacks, but for 85 bucks I'm thinking its time to buy one of my own. Any thoughts on Harbor Freight Floor Jacks? I always use jack stands and it will probably get used occasionally (maybe 4-6 times /year). I am lifted 3 / 2 1/2' but I think this will get me high enough if I lift from rear dif or from front cross member.

Thoughts from the T4R jack experts?

That's the one I've had for almost a year and I've used it at least once or twice a month since I got it. I'm always working on one vehicle or another. No complaints here.

Have a 3/3 lift and never changed my floor jack. You just got to find other sturdy points to lift from. And still can get the front/rear off the ground with it. No blocks.

There's a place called "auto body tool mart" of I remember correctly that sells extensions that go between the cup (?) and the jack arm. I'll try to get a picture when I get home from dropping the kids at school.

I love my HF Low Profile floor jack... got mine on sale for $65 and also used a 20% off coupon from the newspaper. Best garage purchase ever.



But for those not wanting to lug the floor jack around, they make bottle jack extensions for $30... I'll probably pick one up instead of keeping blocks of wood in the truck.
