liftgate lights

I just picked up an 07, still have my 97 with 300k on it, and I had a question regarding installing lights on the liftgate. I would like to install lights that would shine down to the ground when the liftgate is open, and light up the area underneath, as I mountain bike a lot and at night and its nice to have an area lit after dark..Ive checked the forums and havent seen this mod, has anyone done this? If so what led lights (or light bar) did you use and where did you run power from. I was thinking of installing a mercury switch so the lights would come on only if the gate was opened all the way, thanks...
and if I didnt find the thread where this has been done, can someone please steer me in the right direction!

i wired into the 12v socket in the cargo area, mounted mine on the wall but i guess u could run wires into the tailgate & mount em. or maybe use something like this, 12V DC Double Adjustable Car LED Lights with Cigarette Plug for Decoration(TY-715) - Wholesale Factory Direct

Thanks! ...the run from the plug doesnt look far!..I was thinking of using one of these type of lights, as mounted on the decklid, when closed, the light is going to take a bit of a beating...and hella makes a pretty durable light..

Tailgate Overhead Light

I just picked up a grey dome light from a junkyard and wired it to the existing light in the cargo area. That way, it behaves exactly the same way (door/off/on). If you use LEDs in place of the incandescent lights in the interior (which is what I did), the addition of another LED light won't be a problem in terms of current draw. (Sorry for the crummy picture, but you get the idea.)

Very handy to have such a light for camping.

Nice light! Im going with this light, Maputo LED Multipurpose Light it has both red and white, the red will work for when i get my gear ready for riding at dark, so my eyes will be more acclimated to night riding, and the white for other times, glad to see others have done the same!
