Liftgate swap fit?

Not too long ago, I went over some railroad tracks and my boat trailer unhitched, slammed into the liftgate, and wasted it. I found a 1999 sitting in a "Pull-A-Part" yard, which I think I can buy for about $100 w/ glass.

Will this fit my '97, and how difficult to swap out/pull the replacement from '99?

Yes it's a direct swap, although you might wanna check on the wire harnesses on both years and check whether they are the same size and configuration before you commit to buy. Only thing is that these tailgates are super heavy so have someone help you install it.

Appreciate the feedback, and I've already got a buddy coming to help (he just doesn't know yet..)
From looking at it, my impression is that only a couple bolts hold the liftgate brackets to the roof. Guess I'll find out when I go to yank the replacement.

What did you find out for what holds the liftgate brackets? Did the wire harnesses fit together? I need a replacement for my 2002- What did you finally pay for the replacement? Looking online they're all in the $350+ range.

I'm wondering what years will have the same wiring as my '02. Anyone have any ideas?

The wire harness is probably different. The only way to know is to hook it up and see if everything works. If not, it only takes an hour or so to swap out the harness.
