Liftin' her up!

Trying to decide on a lift kit for my 4R, an I'm kind of on the fence as far as what I should get. I think I've got my choices pretty much narrowed down to either a Daystar lift or going for the OME lift (I know, two totally different setups). My plans are for something that I can deal with on my daily commute which is about 75 miles/day, but also get me out to the trails when I want to hit them up about twice a month. Key goal here is that I want to retain the factory ride quality as much as possible. Also, when lifting 2.5-3", would it also be a good thing to use the Toytec front diff drop kit, and would new Chaos or Camburg control arms be a good finishing touch to the system, or too much? Thanks!

If you only going that high and occasional trails , I would go spacers . Its cheap and you can always swap out down the road.

just my .02 .

2.5 / 1.5 Daystar Comfort ride kit is I think how I would go .

www.daystarweb.com or check out JA's site who has a crapload of info in lift for the 4th gen. www.top4runners.com

i guess ill be the one who says that if you're gonna do it, do it right the first time and get the OME. IMHO for keeping that buttery ride.
The diff drop isnt necessary, and some upper control arms are always nice to look at ;-)

i have spacers myself and i recomend you get the ome's. the main reason i went with spacers is the xreas. SO go with the omes and if you have to go with a used set. look here, toyota120, and fjcruiserforums.com.

the tc arms are overkill for a spacer lift.

diff drop spacers are 100% worthless. If you're going to spend that kind of money just send it to me! :D anyone that pushes this product to any of the 4th gen 4runner/05+ tacoma/07+ fj are just trying to make $$$. don't be a sucker.

If you don't plan to abuse your 4runner want want to retain the XREAS setup then spacers are your only option.

Want to go with a diff setup then I recommend OME. Since you do hit the trails abit I'd say you need to decide whether or not the XREAS is important enough to keep or not. It's a toss up as to what you want to do.

Personally speaking, if you were just a DD with no trails (zero) then I'd say spacers but since you do hit the trails here and there then OME may be a good viable option.

spacers will get stiff over time (so the ride will get harsh). ome's are direct stock replacement so the ride will not change (basically you lose xreas).

if you want some breakdowns here's a link for a wiki I made. If you're not a member just register so you can see it.

upper control arms are too bling bling for ya. use it of you get larger tires and need it because you're experiencing rubbing or somethin else.

good luck

I always thought with good spring and shocks the on road handling could be just as good if not better than Xreas.

I think X-reas overrated. Belive me it does help, but nothing a better shock can't do. Plus, the swaybar keeps the vehicle on 4, X-reas just helps it a bit. I just got daystar because it's cheap. $146+9hrs of labor lift. I couldn't help it. =P I'm saving up for OME now.

Good Times, thanks for the informative insight you gave as well as everyone else's views/opinions.

It looks like I'm going to forgo the spacer lift, save the money from possibly not being satisfied with the spacers, and just go for the OME's. OME's really aren't a bad deal for around $700 and I feel like you can't go wrong with OME/ARB products. The X-Reas feature isn't something that I was looking to totally retain, just keep if possible. I can feel it work when driving into corners, but in the long run I don't think I'm going to let it be the deciding factor on how the 4R is going to get lifted. The key here for me is to keep the same ride comfort of the truck, not a jouncey or harsh ride. Plus down the road I'm considering on adding the Shrockworks front winch bumper so an OME setup would already have me where I need to be with a medium/heavy spring setup vs. a heavy bumper on stock spaced out coils.

Thanks for the info on the diff drop kit. I was looking at it from ToyTech's website and wasn't sure if it was a necessary thing or not. Coming from a Heep, a 3-4" lift was hit or miss with getting drive-vibes unless the T-case was spaced down a bit. I just though it would also be easier on the drivetrain, but if you say they're worthless, I'll go with your advice.

Also thanks for the info on the control arms. Don't really hear about a whole lot of people saying they get it or not unless they have an extreme off-roader. I'm not sure about what I'm going to use for a tire size just yet. I like ProMed's setup with his 275/65-18 tire size. 285 might even be a possibility. But if I don't need them, then that's about another $600 back in my pocket. Spidertrax wheel spacers will probably be my alternative (not a big fan of spacers, but I've yet to hear anyone say something bad about them).
