Lifting 99 Limited 4wd (pics)

Hey guys, its been a while since I've posted and I have finally decided on lifting my 99' ~2-3"

First off my questions that I have regarding lifts...

1- I understand that the 99' 4wd models made in Japan with 16'' alloys came with the tallest coils from the factory.

1a- With that being said, throwing on a 2 1/2" spacer kit would actually lift my 4runner higher than other models making alignment issues arise, cv-boots etc.... therefore a 1'' spacer kit would be best and would actually lift my 4runner equal to the height that a pre-post 99' model with a 2 1/2" kit... correct.?

2- IMHO new front coilovers / rear coils would be the best, but just not going to drop that kind of money.

My 4runner has 180k miles on it, so I believe that the coils are a little soft, and a it rolls/dives like a 4door caddy...so a spacer lift would prolly make the truck ride better.

Last question...from all of your opinions by the pictures does the coils have enough sag in them to use the 2 1/2" kit with diff drop, or should I just stick with a 1" spacer...

If those are the original coils/shocks I'd start be replacing them since they are very tired and worn and putting a spacer isn't going to help the ride. Your doing the labor anyway if you are putting in a spacer so I'd spend the cash and do at very least the factory replacement parts and add spacers them and you'll be happy.

Alright, thats what I was hoping not to hear, but its only a little more $green$, and not any more labor like you said.

So among the toytec lifts on the link I provided....... what would you go with.

* This 4runner is just a DD, and I would not like a very stiff ride, I would rather it ride stock-ish.

Should I get the light/Med coils for the 3" lift?

I think I am just going to go with the 3" toytec lift with light OME front/rear springs since my runner won't ever be seeing any hardcore trails/ heavy skids or bumpers

i was looking at a site today, http://www.rocky-road.com/4runner.html and they have 2-2.5 lifts that are only springs (med/heavy) for about 75 bucks a pice, check that site out!

lots of folks run Toytec lifts

Not all 99s had the tall coils. Mine did not.

881 and 890 springs can be bought for less money from other places. That is a common combination-and the 890s are a good choice for the rear.

trdparts4u.com will sell those for less funds. Gerone or Jacques will hook you up. Roughly $70 per spring give or take....

Spacers-some folks love them and other folks would not be caught dead using them.

If you really are not going to be offroading much- a spacer will probably be fine-some have stated it stiffens the ride....

You are correct that most folks end up favoring coilovers up front when their budget finally allows.

A lift is a major investment-read up and read some more and then ask some more and read some more.

sonoran steel website is a wealth of info for 96-02 Runner lifts-read the FAQ section. And yes they sell lifts as well, and I have yet to read a negative review of their products or service.

Finally put on a lift

I just went with the 1 1/2" daystar spacer lift since I already have the taller coils

99' Limited 4x4 w/ 16" alloys... the coils had the blue/yellow... pink whatever stripes on them... the coilover was a ***** to get back in so I couldn't imagine putting the 2 1/2" spacer on top of these taller coils.

During the process of compressing the coils, I had some shty spring compressors and I had to use 4 vise-grips to keep them from sliding, when BAM they slid in a split second and crushed my left ring finger... so I did what any man in his right mind would do..... i taped it up with some purple maskin tape,, bwahahaha

A lift always makes things look better, doesn't it!

I hope you're happy with the ride now, but something tells me you wont in a few months, but good luck.

Also, I highly recommend you invest in some jack stands for working on your ride, working under any vehicle thats just on a floor jack is asking for big time trouble. Seriously.
