Lifting a 1st gen what do i need?

There's plenty of reasonable suspensions available for a 1st gen, some realistic some not.

An 8-10 " lift not so much, because it's a little past reasonable. And what's appropriate for your use can be different.

All Pro Offroad, Marlin Crawler, and Trail-Gear (and others) all have suspnesions for 1st + 2nd gen trucks, most in thr 4-8" range.

The better ones will have complete springs instead of adding a leaf of blocks.

I agree with fourwd1 that this is pretty unreasonable. first off, I doubt you'll find anything more than a 6" lift for your '86 (I assume the one noted in your signature). With independent front suspension you are talking about a pretty complicated lift in that size, compared to leaf springs. Also you are pretty much ruining a perfectly good truck, it will now suck really bad to drive on the street and it will not be usable off road either. If you are trying to simply build a show truck, it will look fine sitting there.

+1 from what Ive read trucks with 0-4" lift are the most fun offroad, youd be better of spending the money on an SAS swap 33" tires and a 2" susp. lift and 2" body lift. mall cruisers have over 4" lift...not hatin just debatin...lol

To be really honest, if you have to ask you shouldn't be doing it. Spend some time research and learn. 8-10 inch lift is not even possible with IFS. If you must go that big do a SAS, which requires MAJOR modification and fabrication. Gears will be a must, drivelines, brake lines, ect.
I don't think you have really thought it through.......
