lifting a 4runner

I drive a stock 1998 4runner ltd and I love it. Except for the fact that it is stock. I would really like to lift it 1 or 2 inches but dont know what the cheapest and safest way to go is. I have heard that body lifts put stress on stearing components and I was therefore thinking about using coil spacers. If anyone has some information on what is cheapest and safest, I would really appreciate it.

cheapest: spacer technology
best: coilover and/or coil/shock combo

spacer technology:
revtek spacers
daystar spacers
cornfed suspension

I'd push for the cornfed suspension as it comes highly recommended by alot of people in the toyota community. www.cornfedsuspension.com

Good luck!

does cornfed make the lift kits for 4gens?

Not yet. They're looking for anyone that wants to be their test vehicle. :) But they're clear across the other side of the US.

Daystar or revtek is your best bet.

Daystar is 200 I think and Revtek is around 300.

Revtek's kit is 3" I think and Daystar has variable kits from 1-2.5" so you're gonna have to inquire with the store for more details.

You can't go wrong either one. Bulldog-yota (on this board and on yotatech.com) lives in the bay area and will be receiving the daystar kit (i think) and he's doing the install himself on the xreas system so I know it's possible.

Check out yotatech.com for more information as I'm helping a yotatech member do an install on a xreas 4runner w/ the daystar kit this weekend (sat).

Install is relatively easy but can be difficult w/o the right tools.

Good luck

what about 1st gens..... ive got an 88 and cornfed doesnt seem to offer anything for that year..... any suggestions

You have several options, maybe first by letting us know how you plan to use your Runner....We can then go from there :D

If you only want 1 or 2". Here's what I did to my 2002. I changed the front and rear coils.

Front: OME 881
Rear: OME 891
Shocks/Struts: OME

I gained about 2" up front and 2.5" tail end.

My next mod is Goodyear MT/Rs

Good Luck.

the josh,
For daystar lifts go to http://www.firestoneairbag.com/website/day_star_products-comfortride-toyota-frame.htm

it shows what is avialible for 4th Gen. I will be installing in a couple of weeks. If you got to yotatech you will find a number of write ups on the topic, specifically lift with XREAS.

Mike or XtremeOff-Road on this board can probably hook you up with a kit or kits. Most people lift the front more than the rear to level the 4th Gen out. I am going 2.5" front and 2" rear. I also have XREAS. Good Times helped a guy in LA out to lift the front 2.5" and he was happy with just lifting the front. They didn't even do the back.

what would you recomend for a 1-2 inch lift on my 4gen so i can keep my x-reas???

Try going with Daystar, I got spacers from Jay at Mesa4x4. I just installed my 2.5" front lift and left my rear alone. All I wanted was a leveled rig, and I got it. By the way Jay was the cheapest I found.

I just rec'd the front leveling kit for my 2004 4R. :D (Part #KT09117BK)

Anyone have any suggestions for a shop to do the install in the greater Seattle/Tacoma area?

TIA

do it yourself! thats where the fun is...
so after it is all done and people aske you about your lift, you can just say: "i did it myself"
