Lifting my 04 4Runner - the Saga

Here is a quick story I want to share about a potential disaster - that turned into a great story with some awesome (and unexpected) customer service.

Bought a Daystar leveling kit about a year ago from amazon. Was going to install on my 04 4Runner LTD (with Xreas). As my wife is quick to tell, if i think a project is going to take 4 hours, it usually takes double that, with at least a trip or two to the parts store for some new tool, etc.
So after hemming and hawing about it, I just let it sit in my garage, while i upgraded to HID lighting, internal LED, bull bar, PIAA, etc....

So, I put them on (after taking off the less than one-year old Spidertrax spacers) :bash:

And boy did they rub, the offset is different from stock, combined with the larger tires (265/70/17), and wwwwwwwrrrrrrrrr on the turns (even with even just a half turn).

Now time for getting that lift on.

So... call up a few places, many won't touch it.
Found CnC autosports in Bellevue - these guys were great to work with, said sure they could handle it - didnt even mind me bringing in the lift kit that I had.

Super cool - wanted $400 for the labor to install. More than I wanted to spend for a $200 lift, but okay.

Best $400 i ever spent.

Friday dropped of truck.
Friday afternoon - get call
- uh when we dropped the suspension - we turned a banjo bolt and the shock leaked out some hydraulic fluid....
OK :happens:
- we talked to the toyota dealership - they'll see if they cant recharge it. we need to keep the truck until monday

Monday -
- uh toyota says they cant recharge the XReas shocks (No DUH) and that we need to replace it - so we ordered two new front shock assemblies.
OK
we need to keep the truck until Tuesday

Tuesday
- uh when we went to disassemble the UCA, the top bolt on the ball joint was rusted, we stripped it and had to cut it off, need a new ball joint. Toyota will have on here tomorrow
OK...
we need to keep the truck until Wednesday

Wedneday -
- uh when we put it back together - it threw a bunch of error codes - need to replace the wheel speed sensor... we have one here
Uh.. OK...
can you pick it up tonight

Wed 6Pm
Daystar Leveling Kit - Installed
2 new front XREAS shocks - Installed
New UCA Ball joint - Installed
New Wheel Speed Sensor - Installed

Total Cost
$400 - Daystar Lift Kit Install
$129 - 4 Wheel Computer Alignment
$79 - UCA ball joint

Unbelievable - I mean im not excited that they lost probably a lot of money on the job, but the fact they owned up to their mistakes (shouldnt have d/c the XREAS), and were super cool about the whole thing.

I'd take my truck back to these guys anytime -

Looks good Chris! Sucks about all the trouble they ran into... I don't think I've heard of anyone else running into so much with a lift, but at least they were honest with you!

And that is the last vehicle with xreas that shop will ever work on....lol

Sounds awesome, I might have asked for bilsteins after they messed up your xreas. Thats just what I would have done though.

If only more shops were like that one.

P.S. Are those XD Addicts?

Yes XD addicts, and you're right, they learned alot.

I thought about the bilstein, but didn't complain since they paid for the new ones!

Same wheel and tire combo I am sort of pondering, also looking at Method Racing Wheels, can't bring myself to get rid of my limited wheels though. Want to downsize for the cheaper tires and get a C or D rated tire rather than an E.

Lots of time to ponder it though.

Your 4Runner looks really good with those on it though, I'll add your 4Runner to my picture collection in my wishlist.

Looks great! Im working on getting a day off so I can throw my 2.5/1.5 on. . . . That and need to save up for the alignment, ugh. I love the wheels aswell. Im looking at getting Soft 8s but I love the look of those.
