Lifting my 97 4R

Hey, I bought my self a 97 4R limited about 3 months ago and i know want to lift it. I am guessing my question has already been answered but ill ask anyways. I want to lift my 4runner about 2-3 inches (suspension) and i am looking at the OME lift kits on rocky-road.com and its says i can either buy the complete suspension kit for $712 or i can buy parts separately, which with F&R shocks and F&R coils would cost about $400. So i am confused as to why the kit is so much more expensive, does it come with other things that you will need? i was also wondering if i should go with medium duty or heavy duty, i do plan on getting front and rear bumper and a winch but that will not be for a while.

Im not familiar with Rocky Road, but the higher price MIGHT be due to them assembling the struts for you, but I doubt it. They might include a diff drop or something...

The prices I am familiar with OME is about $650 for all the shocks and coils.

is there a particular reason why your considering that lift vs something else? dont get me wrong there's very few people out there that will complain about that set up. I didn't go that route because because Im a cheap ba@#4rd lol. Seriously though, you could do some taco or tundra springs and lc springs for the rear a heck of alot cheaper then that and get a bigger lift out of it. But to answer your question, they're probably sending you a dif drop with it, also for that price your probably going to have to assemble the fronts yourself. As far as which kit heavy duty etc- read the sticky thread, it goes over all that.

No i am not sold on OME. But another question i have is if anyone is running factory size tires on 2-3" lifts about how they look. do they look out of proportion?

I am running 265x75x16 which is a 31.5 inch tire, roughly.

265/70/16's look a little small, but a 265/75/16 looks decent IMO.

I just put on a 2" front and a 4" rear (going to be 3" this weekend), and I decided I am going to keep my 265's because I'd rather keep my MPG and low end. Plus I like the way it looks just fine.

However, I came from the opposite side of the spectrum and was running 35's for the last 4 years on my last 3rd gen, and I really just wanted a 2" lift with 265's that whole time. These trucks work really good with a mild lift (and even stock suspension).

Yeah I think I have decided to buy new rubber and leave lift until spring. I was thinking of getting either BFG A/T KO or Goodyear duratecs, any recommendations?

I was also wondering if the 235/85R16 would fit without the lift...265/75R16 are exactly 31.61" and I was told that they are the biggest tire you can put on but the 235/85's are 31.7" and I am thinking they will fit considering the difference is 0.09".

I would go with either. The Duratracs are awesome looking and have gotten great reviews. The BFG's are BFG's. You know what you are buying and are proven tires.

Also don't go with a 235/85, it's too narrow. I would go with 265/75 and be done with it.

with a narrower tire it is better in snow, which there is a lot of where I live.

Ok then go for it, but it will look a little goofy with a lift and the limited flares. I would pick up some wheel spacers to push them out towards the end of the flare a little more. Just my 2¢.

I would say that the looks depend greatly on two things. One is how aggressive the tread is and two is how far out the tires are. If they are a more aggressive tread and they're on a wheel that pushes it out a bit, then I think it can look great. A L/T tire that's meant for street use on stock rims can look pretty small.
