Lifts vs MPG

I really want to lift my 4Runner. More than just level it out. How has this affected your MPG for those who have done it?

Gas is rumored to be going near $5 per gallon in Spring and I already only average 16mpg.

lifting alone won't impact mgp (negligible at worst).

it's the tires that'll kill ya. for example, adding 10lbs per corner equates to nearly 400lbs of dead weight on your rig. if you lift on stock tires, it's going to look whack. that's why people go with a lift and tires with a nice meaty tread which means it's all going to weigh more than the stock setup. you could negate some of the added weight of the more rubber by going with one piece forged wheels, but these are not cheap.

if u want fuel efficiency, the 4r is not the car to buy.

^^ What he said. And if you start looking, there almost no tires as light as the stock dunlop crap... and that sucks. I'm looing at almost 15lbs a tire more when I upgrade.

Noticed no noticeable difference in mpg after 2.5/1.5 lift

I noticed almost no significant decrease in mpg after my lift, maybe 1mpg or so. I attribute this to the fact I went with slightly skinnier tires even though they are 2" taller than stock. They don't look "pizza cutter" at all on the after market wheels I chose and seem to dig in better in the real soft sand Ive used it in so far. Something to think about.

How do you like your 2" leveling kit with the stock size tires?

I really like it. I'm going to go up to a 265/70 when I change them out, just haven't got the cash for that yet. I'm probably going to lose 1-2MPG, but I can live with that. My brother has about 4.5" on his and I need to get a pic of them together, just haven't yet. Believe it or not, just leveling it makes a big difference in the look and it's cheap. It cost me $60 + the alignment. Just so you can see it side by side, here's some pics before and after.
