Hey guys,
Trying to gauge interest from the 4th Gen'ers to see if you guys would be interested in some light bar options. I am going to fab one up for my wife's 05 after the new year and wanted to see if anyone else would be interested. If I get enough interest I can make a batch run and have everything laser cut which makes these things really nice!
Background: I have been a fabricator for 15 years now, did it professionally for 6 years before entering the military (fabbing doesn't pay as well as you would think). I actually did some light bar runs on TW for the 2nd Gen Tacoma's a couple years ago, all laser cut and they turned out very nice. Trying to see if people are interested for the 4th Gen's as from what I see, there really aren't any options out there for them.
Concept: I will be doing two different kinds. I will be making a larger one (thats what I want for our 4th Gen), and a smaller one. The larger one is kinda of a bridge point between getting a full up off road bumper, and a small light bar. It can take some small/medium hits, and is great for ramming shopping carts or polls at the gas station, haha. Not sure if I will make a bunch of these and keep selling, or do a one time batch build. These take a lot of time to build, and I don't always have a lot of time to spare.
Here are some pictures of the ones I made for the 2nd Gen Tacoma's, it would be basically the same as this.
The other option I was going to entertain is something a lot simpler, cheaper, and easier to ship. It would be like a normal light bar, but designed to hold a 30" LED light bar. It would be plate brackets that bolt into existing spots on the 4th Gen so it requires no modification to mount, and will sneak through the grill and allow you to bolt a 30" light bar between the brackets, there will be no tube here. I can do two versions, one that goes past the grill and puts the light bar in front of the bumper like a normal light bar, or make one that requires you to cut out the lower grill and the bar will sit in the opening. I can make one or the other depending on demand. Again, the idea here is this is 100% bolt on and requires no drilling so you can return your vehicle to stock with no issue, or for those who don't want to drill up their rig. Here are some examples of Tacoma ones I have made. These have tubing because they were used for mounting round lights. I want to make them with no tube, and a 30" light bar can sandwich in-between the mounting plates. If there is interest in a tube version, let me know.
So thats the idea. I am very open to suggestion and will see what I can do. I want to make sure these are built so that front plates can show in the states that require them. Also, I learned from the Tacoma ones, the big ones will not be painted as the shipping companies like to damage paint... I haven't decided in the smaller version, though it is a true possibility and price will reflect in both directions. I don't have a price decided yet either. It all depends on interest and how many I would make. If it's around 10 of the small ones or 5 of the large ones, then I can do laser cut runs and mass produce and come up with a fair price. Let me know what you all think!
