Light offroading affects on vehicle

I just purchased a 2006 4Runner as my daily driver. I have wheeled in jeeps, bugs, a range rover, and a couple of trucks. However, none of those were my daily driver and I didn't really keep any one that long to see the long term affects.

So my question with my nice almost new 4Runner is, what is the true affect of a little offroading. I am mainly considering beaches on the east coast. Other than the normal problems with salt water how would driving on sand affect long term maintenance issues. Anyone have experience with parts that see a significant increase in wear and tear?

In simpler terms, should I not be a puss and worry about driving my new truck on the beach?

If the T4R gets in the salt water hose the bottom off. Overall don't worry about. Unless you go fast, splash-in deep etc it's no worse than living in the snow/rust belt.

My '04 is on the beach weekly in the summer, tows a boat about 10-12 times per year, then gets a lot of abuse in the winter. After 4 years, people still ask me if it is new. You will get some surface rust underneath, but wash often, especially undercarriage, and you should be fine. Be wary of undercoatings because unless it forms a tight seal, you can trap salt water between the undercoat and the body/frame and cause a bigger problem.
