(!) Light on guage

What does this light mean? No pic right now, but I can get one if no one knows what I'm talking about. It looks like this: (!)

I just bought my 4Runner. This light came on (I just noticed it) sometime in the last day or so. It is light which on my old car would mean I have a message of some kind, but I have no idea where it would show a message on this car. Nothing shows up in the center info panel on the dash and the odometer only has mileage.

I have a 2006 SR5.

I believe that is the light for tire pressure but I'm not sure. Do you have an owners manual, if so check it and see if you can find out what it means.

IIRC correctly it's the tire pressure as Andyman said. Know the T4R has 5 sensors and low pressure in the spare will trigger the light too. After filling the tires it may take a few miles to get the light out.

Ah! That's awesome I didn't realize I had a tire pressure monitor since it doesn't show the PSI anywhere. I would have checked the manual of course, but the damn thing wasn't in the glove box when I got home.

I saw that you can access one on a Toyota website, I just haven't signed up yet. Thanks though!

Yup thats the TMPS, ck and adj all tires(including spare) to the right tire pressure and it will go out, sometimes on some cars instantly some have to be driven a little to reset.

IIRC 27.5psi is the trigger point for the TPMS light. With winter coming around, it's best to add a bit more air in the tires to compensate for the colder temperature. For every 10* F drop in temperature, there's a 1psi loss. I air my spare to 45psi and the rest to 37psi.

Thanks for that info Uneek. Ive been wondering what the min was before the light came on. Like most my spare is what triggers mine 3/4 time.

Thanks for the info! I always air my tires up a little for the winter so that my TPMS light doesn't come on.

As much of an annoyance this can be, I love the TPMS because it saved me once when I got a flat in the canyon. I was able to drive out of the canyon before the psi dropped too low and find the only open tire repair shop on a Sunday. I would have never noticed the sharp rock sticking out of my tire until it was too late to drive it somewhere.

Agreed - if it's a (!) with a squiggly line under it then it's the tire pressure sensor. Mine is orange/yellow.
If you want a PDF of all the little warning symbols then you can sign up on Toyotaowners.com and then get the owners manual online.

Mine went off the other day - it was just the cold weather.

Incidentally, does filling the tires with nitrogen make any kind of difference to such things?

Nitrogen

I have my tires nitrofilled and I haven't had my light come on at all this year so far. Last year it would go off all the time, so I think that Nitrofilling the tires actually might be useful after all.

mine is on, but it's flashing. i think this means that there is a problem with one or more of the sensors themselves. a solid light means tire pressure in one or more tires is low. can someone tell me if i'm right? i check my tire pressure regularly and it is always good.
