light racing UCA install help

for those with the LR UCA.. i'm getting ready to install them as my alignment is whacked out after the lift springs and shocks went in

https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http://www.spcalignment.net/instructions/25480-INS_WEB.pdf

based on the above install chart.. what position did you set the UCA when you put it in before taking it to the alignment?

lets use the letters A-G based on the chart

I read that adjusting caster on the TOP of the spindle actually pushes the wheel back closer to the rear of fender and causes rub on the body mount..

adjusting caster on the BOTTOM of the spindle pushes wheel forward away from body mount and closer to the front fender liner

since the UCA adjusts caster on top.. my understanding is that use as little as possible in combination with the lower cambolts to achieve desired caster so the wheel does not get pushed back to the point of body mount rub..

if my lower cambolts are maxed out (all 4).. what should i set the UCA to initially? i currently have -0.5 caster and +0.9 camber

thanks for any help

Set them to "D" = 0*

Then take your truck to a COMPETENT alignment shop (Not the same place you took it last time)

Enjoy

if set to D .. does it mean the lock plate will give additional +/-2 caster?

so if my cambolts are maxed out then the max i can gain would be 2.0 caster?

OR

does D mean +2 caster just by installing UCA and then additional lock plate adjust can give +/- 2??

thanks

I would leave the Caster at the "D" position as well. On my 08' Tacoma I installed these and set the Caster to "A" +2 and I went to Toyota and a few other shops and they all ended up moving the lower cam bolts to get the caster into spec, therefore pushed the tire more rearward and I couldn't even turn the wheel all the way without hitting the Cab Mount.

Just start at D, and maybe move the ball joint all the way inward, this will give max camber as well. Just make sure the Ball joint boot doesn't interfere with the coils.

There is no "+/-" caster.... It's only "+" with LR UCA's.

Setting the LR UCA's to 0* will give you +2* caster. That's why you really need to find a competent alignment shop to fix the other dudes crap job...................Seriously!

having hard time seperating the ball joint.. according to the instruction video you need a special tool..

but i also read about the hammer method? can't find details on how to do it.. dont want to damage the joint..stuck:redbrick:

You don't need a tool. The hammer method is not entirely obvious - at least it wasn't to me the first time I tried it. YouTube search 'ball joint separator' and only watch the videos of doing it WITHOUT a ball joint puller. You can smack it pretty hard in the right spot and it just comes apart. Once you learn how to do it, it's like riding a bicycle, you just tap it once and it comes apart.

Above is correct...You need to whack it pretty good (2-5 times) and accurately, with a #8 sledge on the flat spot on the spindle with a slight downward motion. Also don't remove the spindle nut all the way, so it doesn't come falling off while you hit it.
