Lights - Auto Off - SR5

So I found out something interesting tonight, (I am sure some of you know this, but nice to know for the others who do not), if you leave your headlights on after you turn the 4R off and take the keys they stay on for a couple mintues then auto shut off :) I do not remember reading that in the manual though. I thought it mentioned interior light, but maybe it applied to the exterior as well. Either case I am happy to find that out! Nice to leave them on if walking up a friends dark driveway. Now I am not so let down that the 4R does not 'ding' at me when I get out that I left my lights on, it does not care!

According to the manual, the headlights will stay on for 30 seconds after closing the door (with key removed of course) or until the lock button on the remote is pushed. I still haven't tried mine out yet, opting just to use the switch to cut the lights off. Today might be the first day I really get to go play with all of the functions on my SR5.

Pretty much all these electrical settings can be changed by the dealer. On the headlight auto-off, I believe there are 3 or 4 settings as far as how long they'll stay on. I'm definitely having the dealer do the one where I can open and close all the glass w/ the keys.

Should already be done by default, I believe all you have to do is on the 2nd time that you hit the unlock button just hold it until the windows open. Haven't really checked the option on mine since it's freezing outside.

Based on the TIS, it isn't turned on by default. There was one other thing I wanted to have done when I was looking at the TIS, but I can't remember off the top of my head.

apparently my lights do not turn off if left on for a few minutes. They do not turn off when I hit the lock button twice either. Is there something wrong with my car?

Your lights WILL turn off, however, there's a catch.

If your lights are on and you turn off the vehicle and DO NOT turn the lights off manually, the lights will automatically turn off after 30 or so seconds. Now, if you turn off the car, manually turn off the lights, and then manually turn the lights back on again without starting the car, the lights will stay on indefinately.

I guess they do this because they assume if you turn the lights on while the car is off, you WANT the lights to stay on. If you forget to turn them off after driving, the system assumes you forgot to turn them off and so it turns them off automatically for you.

Make sense? Try it out and you will see.

So will this work with all models? Or just the Limited?

Hmmm.... Just tried it and didn't work. Just so I am understanding this correctly - You press the unlock button once - then again (and hold on the second press of the unlock button) and all of the windows should roll down?

Yeah and the sunroof should open also. I'll check the owners manual in a bit to verify.

Just checked. Looks like it'll have to be set up by the dealer. Wonder if they'll charge me for this. Just spent a grip there so better do it free of charge :whip2:

Actually it might not, let me look into it more the salesman showed me some auto open feature when I picked it up might be only the rear window

Check out page 47 of your owners manual. It says that this function will work *but it must be set up by the dealer. I'm going to get mine set up today =) Boy will that be nice once summer hits!:boink:

I don't think you need to go to the dealers for this to be done. Usually it's something simple like holding both unlock and lock buttons at the same time for 10-20 seconds. Have you tried pressing it 3 times? (Unlock > Unlock > Hold Unlock) I haven't had the time to run out and try.

I reprogrammed my smart key to open all doors from the driver side by holding all 3 buttons.

:iagree: that's exactly how it is on my '06. If the lights are already on before you turn off the engine, it'll turn off by itself or with a second press of the "Lock" button on the remote. If you fiddle with the lights after turning off the engine, the lights will stay on indefinately. The only way to turn them off is manually with the switch on the turn signal stalk.
