Head Lights come on & constant cabin chime
Hoping to get some help for a weird problem - I gave up searching and decided to post so sorry I could'nt do a readers digest version!
So today after a good overnight rain I found my headlights on when they were switched off. Trying to turn them off/on/off no change. Started it up, switched on the hi-beams a few times and was then able to get the lights to turn off. I also noticed when playing with the on/off switch that the headlights power seemed flakey like a dim flicker when messing with the on/off/hibeam.
A couple hours later the same thing happens, got them to turn off by repeating above but now the cabin alarm is constantly ringing a broken intermittent chime when the truck is not running!!
I disconnected the neg battery cable cleaned it up and the chime started again after reconnecting. I ran my hand down tracing the neg cable down to the bottom and by light jostling I got the sound to stop?! Only lasted a few minutes and the chimimng started again. The cable has that rigid accordian plastic covering all the way and seems in good shape. It is slit all the way to allow removal which is expected.
Since everything is fine when the 4r is running and the roads were now dry I thought a good hgwy run to maybe dry everything out would help and it did!! Chimes have stopped - Do I need to maybe wrap that conduit to prevent moisture? This will kill me once the snow starts!! I suspect this conduit has some kindof faulty wire causing a ground issue but it appears there are several wires in there and hard to trace which one.
FWIW - this 96 SR5 V6 3.4 Auto is US spec with no DLR lights, it's manual on/off.
