Lights for a light bar help

So i am thinking of getting a defiant 4 light bar for my 03 4runner. I was wondering about what type of light to put on it and looking for recommendations. I was thinking about a set of Fog lights in the middle and Driving lights on the outside.

Any feed back as of type's of lights and if you would do fogs lights or just driving lights would be great. Thanks

I myself put HID Driving lights on the front that matched my headlights (4200K). They look like these (I didn't buy from this company). I used the 4'' version which with bezel is more like 6''. This place has them for 109.95 per light. They are really bright and have the ballast built into the light itself, they are made "ok", but that's what you get for saving $100's per light. HID off-road lights are still really expensive (still a niche market and the price reflects that).

Other than the above regular fog/driving/pencil lights are made by many manufactures, people like LightForce, PIAA, Hella the most I think. Plus if you went with any of those you could convert them to HID in the future too with a kit.

(Can you tell I favor HID? I think if you really want more light there is no substitute.)

I have basically what you said.

I have the defiant bar with PIAA 580 fogs lights on the inside and PIAA 510 driving lights on the outside, although I'm thinking about replacing the 510s with 540s. I like the output I get, it's pretty bright. I also have PIAA his & lows for my headlamps.

I've heard a lot of good things about Light Force too and have also been thinking about upgrading to 140s & 170s (I like look of smaller lights on the outside)

edit: make sure you decide on lights before ordering, he made my light bar with light tabs spaced specifically for my setup.

I have lightforce lights and I think they are too big for a 4runner. Looks goofy so I took them off. I have some piaa 520's on order.

I don't recommend HID offroad lights if you plan to use them on the street at all (illegal, but on a deserted back road- who cares?)- because you'll be turning them off every time a car comes down the road- the constant on/off is terrible for HID. If you only plan to run them off-road, then I'd go HID.

Like rvcahawaii808 mentioned, I run PIAA ions and atps on my light bar. The combo does very well in all conditions. However, my ion's are driving and not fog. I have 3000k HID in my stock fogs so i rely on those as well as my ions to cut through fog and rain.

When it comes to light choices, you can't really go wrong with the major brands like Lightforce, PIAA or Hellas (there may be more but these are the ones i've seen in person). If you like the slimmer look, go with Piaa's or Hella's. If that's not a concern, then take a look at a set of Lightforces.

very bright
on the slim size from a profile standpoint
available on the net for a cheap price
Buy a specific color at the same price - no additional filter needed

Cons:
Glass lens (replacements are expensive)

Lightforce
Pros:
very bright
swap out lenses depending on conditions
bulletproof casing (literally)
Change the beam pattern like a mag light from pencil to dispersion

Cons:
on the higher end of the scale on price
takes up more space due to design
One flavor only - you have to buy a filter for different colors
