lights under hood mod

today i saw my buddy's jeep has a light under his hood i want to do it for my 4runner too, because at night time when i want to look whats wrong with my engine i always have to hold a flash light in one hand so this mod would make my life easier. i was thinking just buy a some leds and put then in the 4 corner of the hood and one in the center and run the wires staright to battery what kind of led bulbs should i buy and what kind of wire should i use, ps i will take pics when i do this just in case some one wants to do it as well.

I use to think the same.

My parents use to have a Cadillac & Buick...and they had a light under the hood.

As I grew up...realize we don't need it, because we drive Toyotas, they don't break down haha.

I would just get a headlamp that bicyclist wear over their head.

get one off a chevy ck like a 90 something there on a reel and it will go all the way around the truck

I did this mod last month, I didn't use LED's but a regular brake light bulb. I wired in a push down contact switch, so that when the hood is closed, the light is extinguished. Check out my thread on YT. Under hood light - YotaTech Forums

Reason why Toyotas don't have lights under the hoods is because we don't gotta fix our engines on the side of the road every night on our way home

There are also battery powered magnetic LED lights that can be stuck anywhere metal in a pinch and those migth be easier to dom instead of all the wiring and you can move them aroudn or take them underneath the vehicle if needed.

Most SUV's don't have lights under the hoods.

Good luck if you decide to do this. I honestly don't think it is worth the time or effort.

very nice im think im going to do a switch type, so you just hook one end og the wire to the negative of the battery and the other end to whatever metal on the car?

Truthfully this mod doesnt do much, you usely need to look past the top 5% of the engine and at that point any hood light wont do anything, just get a maglite. The best hood mod would be the shocks so that it holds itself up.

I'd like to do that too! The shocks would be an awesome investment!
