Like large tires? Leave room for tire chains.

I lived in Lake Tahoe several years ago and worked at a ski resort. CA sometimes requires 4wd and tire chains and they are strict about it. A Caltrans vehicle stops every vehicle and asks you and visually checks. So with many people on here obsessed with having the largest tires that they can use, remember you may need to put chains on at some time, and if your tires are too large, the chains will not fit.

This is confirmed. I also lived in Tahoe for many years and had to chain up my girlfriends Explorer one year when she needed to get to the Reno airport to get her parents. Some trucks thought they could leave and were turned back when they didn't have chains.
I really only saw it happen that once during super heavy snow, but it's a good thing to keep in mind when in the area.

The Winter I was out in Tahoe I lived in South Lake and worked at Sierra-at-Tahoe and had to go up and over Luther Pass everyday for work. It snowed on average 6 days a week and Caltrans did Avalanche Control on Luther Pass almost daily. 4 wheel drive with chains was required for the pass most everyday. I had a front wheel drive van with chains and when I would get stopped and checked, I'd tell them my van was all wheel drive. I'd get a running start and spin all the way up and over the pass! The line of vehicles moved slowly but never stopped or I'd have never got going again. I skied in powder that Winter that, at times was up to my chest! I had to hold my arms up over my head to cut down on the drag! I'll never forget the amazing skiing that Winter!

Yup, driving hours to get to the mountain only to turn around because you don't have chains or chains do not fit would suck.
Best to practice putting chains on before you need it - in the comfort of your driveway / garage; We've tried putting chains on our friend's car for the very first time, while watching falling snow melt the instructions - LOL!
Store chains/cables clean and lightly-oiled.
If chains/cables require tensioners, separate those from oiled chain with a plastic bag.
Also a good idea to have some bungee cords so you can McGyver tensioners if needed.
