Limited capacity on USB Input

Whats up guys/gals,

I use my sony walkman (im probably only one in world without IPOD lol) and connect it to USB Port in Glovebox...and I noticed it only contains a maximum of 255 songs..even though my walkman has 300+ songs...is everyone having the same issue? I wonder if there is a way to add more memory to the 4runner if thats the case?

Is Sony still using the ATRAC3 format? I'm not sure if the factory unit can read ATRAC3.

Or you can put all the songs in a 4GB USB flash drive. I'm not sure if the unit has a USB flash drive size limit

My ipod has over 1000 songs on it and it works fine. However, I found the interface too clumsy, and there were slight digital "skips" that were annoying the heck out of me.

I switched to a USB thumb drive, threw all my music on it, put it on Random, and its much better.

Maybe it can only handle 255 songs in one folder (includuing the root folder)? If you break them up into folders, it may work better.

I ran out and got a Flash drive 4gb...probably better idea anyway than having walkman slide around in glovebox. :dancin:

So, how do you use a USB drive vs the IPod? Do you just copy all of your folders over to the USB drive and plug it into the truck?

Does the JBL stereo respond more quickly that way?

I also went out and got a 4GB thumb drive not wanting my ipod to potentially get bounced around in the glove compartment. Hopefully, the interface is not anymore troublesome than the ipod's, which I'm still muddling through the intricacies of.

The USB seemed to respond quicker than the ipod when I tried them out at the dealer. This wasn't on the JBL, though.

Using the USB Thumb drive, you cannot navigate via artists, albums, themes etc.

You can only skip between folders in sequence as you have them set out on the thumb drive. It also takes a couple of seconds for the text to show up on the screen, and by then, the song has already started to play, so its still awkward to navigate.

You are better off putting a bunch of songs on the stick and putting it on random mode.

In regard to my original question on this thread, using a USB flash drive and putting the songs in separate folders "fixed" the problem.

So for all the knuckleheads out there withstupid: lol), instead of ALL of your songs in one root folder..just break them up so its not more than 250 in a folder and place it on "Random".
