Line-xed interior?

My dad and I have been pondering this questions for some time.

Would it be wise to rip out the carpet in a 4th gen and line-x the floor?

I've seen it done on a ton of TJ's so I was wondering if it would be a good idea on a 4Runner.

Thoughts?

I recall this just bring discussed a few months back. If you do a quick search I think there are a few threads about it. But I recall there being a ton of stuff under the carpets and most people never moved forward on it.

Geez. Just get some Weathertechs if you get messy in your vehicle. You can't just hose out a 4th gen because of all the electronics. IMO bed liner makes it look like a $2,000 beater.

The only thing I would get linex would be the rear cargo cause I use mine as a pick up and my carpet still looks awesome hahah but yea just get some good floor mats I have husky mats from Walmart and there awsome and i always get them dirty i just take them out shake and spray amd done and if I recall it would release fumes when it gets hot inside just my .02¢

It is a very tough undertaking man. Wires are the biggest issue. You really can't re-route them either unless you cut and splice them which in my opinion is very dangerous and not worth it. You can re-route several wire looms up into the headliner but at the end of the day it's a nightmare with the rest of the wires.

You also have to scrape up the factory sound deadening crap if you want the Linex to "lay" right. I still want to push forward with my Linex project that I started last fall but will probably end up folding my cards.

Did this to a car i had. Smelled like liner for years. Could never get it to vent off. Would leave door open all day whenever i could. Never helped.

Did it to an old Jeep Grand Wagoneer project a few years back. Looked cool. Super durable. Didn't smell bad, not that I remember. DID massively increase road noise (but who really cares when you're running 33" mud tires and you trimmed your fenders with a reciprocating saw?)

Having pulled up sections of 4Runner carpet for the stereo install, it would NEVER happen unless you plan on doing a lot of cutting and lengthening of wires in order to re-route your wiring overhead.

The wiring package on an old Jeep is... old and Jeep'ish. Your 4R? Not so much.
