Little black "box"

So two hours after I turned my car off yesterday, it randomly started making noise. I crawled under my car to see what it was and it's a rectangular box, I'd say about the size and shape of an amp. It's right above and towards the rear of the rear differential and right in front of where the spare tire should be. It was too close to take picture, but I was just curious if anyone knew what it was? It's definitely electrical. There was multiple wires coming out of it. It was making a noise similar to a fan. I went and started my car for a sec, then turned it off and the sound went away. Anyway, just got me curious as to what it was. Thanks!

I know what box your talking about but i couldnt figure out what it was either ill look it up in my haynes manual later if nobody responds with an answer i couldnt tell if it had something to do with the fuel system, brake system, or what. theres wires heading in several directions out of it and one big conglomeration of wires that seems to head over towards the filler neck.

It's emissions control stuff. Perfectly normal.

so i was curious...

i went outside and was looking under my 4r for this black box... and a dr i work for pulled up and asked what i was doing and without hesitation i replied "looking to see if i have a flux capacitor"

all i got was a "alrighty then..."

but i dont think i have it...

side note... my phone fell out of my pocket when i was down there and i sat on it scooting out and cracked the screen. so now my delema is pay $50 for a droid 3 replacement, or pay $200 for the iphone 4s.

That's funny!

I'd rather use a busted up Droid than a 4s! Get the new HTC OneX or whatever it's called on Verizon.

im not a fan of the htc...

and lately droid has been upsetting me with how many force closes i get. but i might step up to the droid 4 for 200 as well... hmmmm... maybe ill start a poll.

I vote for any Droid!

My GF has the 4S and hates it. She came from a crackberry curve, and would still rather have the BB. I have an Incredible1 and don't have force closes. Might be your phone.

Back to the original topic.....

The box you're asking about is the charcoal canister for the evaporative emissions system. After the truck has sat for two hours the system runs a test for function/leaks. The sound you're hearing is a small electric air pump that creates a vacuum in the system. This is perfectly normal, no worries.

Jumping back off topic, I love my 4s.

:biggrin2: That is such a great answer, if anyone responded to me like that, I think I'd fall over laughing

btw, Droid > iphone

lmao!!! "alrighty then...." the black box is tucked up under your spare tire so its hard to see unless its removed or you have a body lift.

damn yo you try to investigate something and you wined up with another problem. I have the Iphone 4 and love it. I have friends who have the droid and love there droids best advice go play with an iphone an see what you think, then go play with a droid and an HTC and see what you like best. if you into programming you can make the OS system of the iphone work like the droid and vise versa I can have an HTC homescreen on my Iphone if i want just takes alittle jailbreaking but thats another topic all together still laughing at that response alrighty then...

iCracked, Nationwide iPhone Repairs My iPhone is damaged and I'm thinking of sending it to them to have it repaired. They seem pretty good and prices don't seem Looney Tuney. I'm holding out to get the iPhone 5.

Topic: My truck does making some humming noises and the occasionally click even when the engine is off (after its been turned off and when the key is on the ACC ON position).

Thanks for the information about those little boxes. I had been wondering myself.

:offtopic::bravo:

iPhone 4s is the best!

App crashes are WAY more common on the 4S than Androids, check out the research.

Also, rumor is Apple is abandoning Google Maps, which is SO STUPID!! Say what you will about Google, but nobody touches their Maps and data, especially not Apple. Good luck with that Apple...

Back off topic, Trevloc, the same thing happened to me the last time I crawled under the truck. iPhone slipped out of my pocket and cracked. Thankfully it was the back glass. Just in time for the iPhone 5 :)

But my vote of course is iPhone. I've had them for 4 years and wouldn't own any other phone.

otter boxes guys they do work yo!!! I was at a construction site with buddy of mine while he was running shingles on the roof of this house one day (he has an Iphone 4 with otter box) His phone was down in his truck near where i was and it started ringing. he asked me to toss it up to him so i threw it up from the concrete driveway to the top ridge of a 2 story house needless to say he fumbled the catch allowing the phone to plumit back to the concrete i picked it up no cracks on the phone the otter case was scatched pretty bad but threw it back up to him he caught it the second time and called his girl back. just thought id share a funny off topic story.
